Cradled upon comfort of my breast, this is my only chance for rest, as when I put you down again, that's when the cries of need begin. For months you've been within my hold, although you're but a few weeks old. And now outside you want within, where warmth and safety were given. Understand, dear one, I will not leave but to my bosom you mustn't cleave, for what will make you strong, my son, is letting go so you can run. Behold, postpartum sets in again. That's when MY cries of need begin. And forget that I should need some rest. Come cradle comfort upon my breast. This is dedicated to my three sons, my "monkey toes", inspired by my youngest, Lane, who is 5 weeks old. ~Sydney McLean [This message has been edited by my3monkeytoes (05-20-2002 03:03 PM).] |
