~* Where Love Once Grew *~I can hear her singing off in the distanceas I meander this path to her sanctuary. It hugs the rocky shoreline of a stream whose music soothes the soul and mind. She had danced to this melody when she was young, and her children had laughed away summers here. Underfoot the fine crushed gravel, sparkling white and black, tossed with pine needles, edges old ferns trying to grow without any interruption to the order of nature. I pass one single dandelion whose head stands straight up in defiance, with her tumult of hair all blown away. I’ve come to warm an aging heart with a bouquet of love and an ear to hear and understand her constant loneliness. I speak loudly as she can’t hear too well, but she understands the questions in my loving eyes. As I reach her she is singing that same old song, pulling that hoe of hers, never planting, just pulling for the sake of pulling. I can see she wears the one glove left that must not only keeps her hand from blistering but also her heart, for it was his. His absence walks now in her memories preceding each step she takes in this earth that they both turned over each spring, for over 50 years of married bliss. She reminds me every time, they never argued once, and when they spoke the children did what they were told to do. Out back rests her 3 children that she will visit once more this Mother’s Day. Tells me every time - shame a Mother has to outlive her children, a real shame. She'll wash up nice on Sunday its a special day. She'll put on her pink hat with the purple flower, an old polyester print she has, spash on cologne, and put on that old white knitted sweater with the worn elbows and all the moth holes. But today, she just wants to watch the dust of this earth whirl where once love grew, then she'll invite me down to the house for a cup of chamomile tea and a chat. ~*~ this one's for Ida ~*~ personal photo We should spend less time worrying about when our life is going to end and more on when it's going to start! (tears fall down my cheeks) And that love that once grew will continue to grow forever and ever, for deep in Ida's heart she will always hold the memories of her love true, just as she will always love you and all her family and friends and she will never ever forget you, for she belongs to your heart and she will always be blessed to have such a special daughter like you! (BIG HUGGGGGSSSS) God Bless You, sweet friend, now I'm flooding in tears reading this, you are just like your mom and will always make your children so blessed, you area true angel, this is a very touching dedication of love, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Thank you for reading this about a dear, sweet person. She does live alone (wish I could find her a man to move in) as she does everything herself and is very independent. I know that she has one Granddaugther somewhere, but never speaks of her, nor do I see a picture so I don't ask. I just visit and bring her "stuff". She will sit out there in the family grave site by herself on Sunday with that old dog of her, and sing until lunch, and then wait until the next holiday to go out and do it again! She's one special lady, and tough as nails! p.s. I added the Kleenix alert JM [This message has been edited by Mysteria (05-10-2002 10:04 PM).] |

Ida is all these things and more, with the tenacity of a lioness, the sharpest senses, and the wisdom and vocabulary of a library. But then, most older folks do, if we only listen and learn. Thank you all. |

Sharon, Ida was my grandma's name. The harshness of life imposes on some people more than others. How lovely that you have befriended her. Thank you for sharing...and happy Mother's Day! It's never too late to have a good childhood! Woohoo! |

Larry ~ Seems to be a name from that era, as I know several in their 70's and 80's actually. Glad you liked this one. Gentle Spirit ~ Actually her life is very happy and I only wish I am able to "hoe away all day" when I am her age Thank you. |

Thanks for adding the Kleenex warning, Sharon....it was sorely needed this time. I can't figure out whether my tears are happy or sad, but I think they're a combination of both, with some tears of admiration added in. She sounds like a delightful and wise friend to have....good for both of you! ~Mother's Day hugs Lyra |

So touching. I guess I have a huge soft spot for those that stay close to their roots and hang on to their happiness. They make me see how one can change and still stay the same. She is real to me..Thank you for that as this write is a tearful, emotional one for me. Please tell her Happy Mom's Day..and Happy Mom's day to you too..Hugs to you both. Sincerely, Reg |

Lyra ~ She is really happy in living out her days right where she is and how she is, and I sure respect her for that. I wish all of us could be as comfortable as she is with what we have. Regina ~ I will let her see all these comments on Monday when I go by, and thanks for reading on your Mother's Day too, Happy Mother's Day honey. Take care. We should spend less time worrying about when our life is going to end and more on when it's going to start! |

When they say "salt of the earth" they are speaking of Ida and people like her. What a wonderful lady she is.... When they speak of "the woman with the biggest heart in this entire world"...then they are speaking of you. |

Thank you for your sweet comments, she is going to get a real kick out of this, and perhaps I can get her doing poetry again, as she used to do lovely poems. She has no computer and I can't post for her but I can sure take her somewhere she can read her poetry and I know just the place too |

In some ways, Ida reminds me of my dad... except that he plants everywhere he hoes and ends up with acres of vegetables. *S* This is wonderful, Mysteria... I enjoyed it very much. *S* |
