Fear

I needed you last night.

It was like I had slid down that
drain cover that I use to have nightmares about,
when I was so young and thin
and would never step over or on it
on the way to school each morning,
only around it and still to this day avoid them.
It was probably one of my first fears in life.
Funny, being so thin I thought I could fall into
the sewer between the metal strips of the grates.

I needed you last night.

It was like my fear of passing my sister's room,
when I was only eight and
that huge clay and mache' man with the glass eyes
following my every step towards
the door of my own, scarred me with those mean eyes.
All over again, the fears entered my mind.

I needed you last night.

Blanket pulled tight around me,
covering my head like I did when a child,
when I was afraid a leaf
that came through the screen was a bat,
and would get tangled in my long hair.

I needed you last night.
I cried out but no one came.

Maureen, as one who lives with the threat of fear and panic on almost a daily basis, I can soooo relate to this. You have expressed yourself extremely well. Funny...but I am also afraid of grates on the ground and will walk around them. I also try to avoid those rod iron winding stairs ..... lol..sounds silly when you type it out on the computer. You will be fine, and so will I as there is something much, much bigger and stronger than our worst fears watching over us - protecting us. I am rambling now!! hugs, Chris

Tracie,Amy,~V~, Chris
my fears won't ever go away I don't think and the new ones adding to them just makes
my world seem like it is overwhelmed at the moment. So thank you for reading these words of late that me ramble on and on...
