Dream Cruise
By Larry Chadwick

I took a cruise last night,
On the ship of my regrets.
Reviewed what I have done,
And how it affects me yet.

We kissed until our lips were raw,
And then came back for more.
We talked of all our hopes and dreams,
And what they held in store.

Confident of what we thought,
And what together we had hoped.
But it was never meant to be,
And now we have to cope.

So passionate were all our plans,
And what we thought would be.
Yet they would not come true,
For either you or for me.

But they were still our dreams,
And at night I take this trip.
Reviewing what we had hoped,
I see it in my mind, a little clip.

It comforts me to recall,
All the things that we did share.
Just thought you’d like to know,
After all these years, I still care.

Larry
Let me be the first to say what a beautiful poem you have written.  I take that dream cruise every night, especially now that my marriage has ended.  Lots of regrets.  Thank you for sharing.

Larry darling boy this is a wonderful poem I try not to let regrets hold me. As for the ship of them it will have to sail without me. I adore your writing whatever you write you manage to pack in so much feeling so much reality. This is wonderful as always

Larry - everytime I go on a "dream cruise", Gilligan pops into my mind and ruins everything..lol.  This is heartfelt and lovely. Enjoyed. Chris

Larry...the title caught my eye first, but, I think I may need glasses as I thought it said, 'Sea Cruise'...
and now I have that song in my head!!
Seriously, this is a wonderful and tender write.
Loved it much!

Larry C, beautiful, beautiful write. I'm sorry things didn't work out. It's an awful feeling I know. BTW, the title is awesome! Great write.

BearyLarry~   Soooo sad....maybe because it struck a nerve.  I like the ending very much though, as it gives me hope.

A beautiful and tender poem, Larry...and very timely for me.
For the past few nights, David and I have been watching old city commision tapes of my late first husband (he was a city commissioner here for a few years), so that David could actually "meet" him.
And every one of those nights has brought me a dream about him that tears my heart to pieces.
I know they say you can't love 2 people at the same time, but I still love him but I also love David just as much.
Thankfully, David understands this.
~ sad loving hugs

Liked that verse especially!
It's an expensive trip, but one we must take in order to come full circle.

A poignant piece Larry, and one of your best in my book!

Krista,
Wow...you too huh? It isn't easy but it's okay. Bless you.

Lyra,
Well, my little inspiration is nothing compared to your memories. But your life has been far more intense than mine. Bless you sweet poet friend. What an awesome thing that the two of you could do that. I am so proud of you both for your courage and love. Thanks for sharing that.

Lori,
LOL An expensive trip! How right you are, as usual. Thanks friend. A lot.

This is very beautiful in its sadness. I think regrets show us those things we still long for, but somehow just can't seem to recapture, and it is a shame that when love grows old, we can't rekindle that newness that gave it life in the first place. It takes two to create a dream cruise, and two to keep it floating...nicely done.
