Here's a poem I wrote to honor this special holiday, I posted both the Latin and English version!!! YAY!!! Cinco de Mayo By: Noah Eaton 5/5/02 Venga en ahora, es tiempo de obtener loco Asga una sosa de coco, tenga una raja de flan, y salve la tradición Respire el quenas y pampanas y strum el charango Contra el creciente del sol rojo de Chile Inunde las calles y llene los canales con gritos de flamenco Con strumming de corazones de samba aprecia un desfile de Carnaval Obtenga a su amante, recite el bandeneon, y baile su tango El golpe a tambores diferentes y da cada estribillo algún meringue Porque en este día que antedatar a 1862 Honoramos la libertad y la libertad dos acción colorada de naciones La paz que trae a tanto a México como América nosotros abrigamos verdadero El pueblo que libera en el este de la batalla de la Ciudad de México sin el temor o la desesperación Gracias al Coronel Diaz y Ignacio Zaragosa General, la justicia se sirvió Ayudar dirige una caballería dos veces tan grande como Napoleon, y como finalizar nuestra Guerra Civil América que une a derrotar el confederates y la libertad de México que salen aseguraron Traer los colores verdaderos del consuelo y la gratitud juntas, para celebrar forevermore Así que reúne a todos sus niños redondos y rompe el pinata Y ase su sombrero y abofetea en su sarape Para la herencia que compartimos vive en y en Beborrotee un vidrio agradable de Tampico y permitanos la extensión el partido entre usted y mí VIVA! el CINCO DE MAYO!! Esparza sus colores y la huelga vibrantes arriba la banda de mariachi VIVA! el CINCO DE MAYO!! Cave en algún poblano delicioso de lunar y cante su canción Y puede este partido dura todo el día.. (English Translation) Cinco de Mayo By: Noah Eaton 5/5/02 Come on now, it's time to get loco Grab a coconut soda, have a slice of flan, and save the tradition Breathe the quenas and pampanas and strum the charango Against the rising of the red chile sun Flood the streets and fill the canals with shouts of flamenco With samba hearts strumming like a Carnival parade Get your lover, recite the bandeneon, and dance your tango Beat to different drums and give each refrain some meringue Because on this day that dates back to 1862 We honor the freedom and liberty two colorful nations share Bringing peace to both Mexico and America we cherish true Liberating Pueblo in battle east of Mexico City without fear or despair Thanks to Colonel Diaz and General Ignacio Zaragosa, justice was served Helping lead a cavalry twice as large as Napoleon's, and ending our Civil War Uniting America in defeating the confederates and leaving Mexico's liberty insured Bringing true colors of solace and gratitude together, to celebrate forevermore So gather all your children round and break the pinata And grab your sombrero and slap on your sarape For the heritage we share lives on and on Sip a nice glass of Tampico and let's spread the party between you and me VIVA! el CINCO DEMAYO!! Spread your vibrant colors and strike up the mariachi band VIVA! el CINCO DEMAYO!! Dig into some delicious mole poblano and sing your song And may this party last all day long... OLE! Thank you Noah! I really do miss the Cinco de Mayo celebrations that I grew up with in Southern California. I must admit that I'm drinking some wine tonight instead of cerveza or tequila, but I did make the pinto beans, and will have quesadillas and beans and nachos for dinner! OLE!
