It certainly pays to be somebody Particularly in the face of death There are those who are so often glorified Before they've taken their final breath Then there are those who are sadly forgotten Victims of abuse and poverty They are not given the time of day And no one is willing to see There are men who survived the war Yet so many who can't find their feet There are alarming numbers of our youth Who cannot even survive the street The 'throw away kids' of our society Are abandoned and void of love Let's hope they find more compassion When they make the journey up above I read about a boy named David At age 12 he was a ward of the state His situation was virtually hopeless His so called life had sealed his fate He would take comfort and warmth in a dryer So often found at the laundromat At age 18 he was found dead in a stairwell Of some high rise commission flats Cheap coffins made from chipboard No flowers to mark their place No mourners beside the graveside No tears and simply no face What has happened to our society? We should hang our heads in shame For those poor souls who needed our help But were buried without the dignity of their name * * * I was deeply moved by an article I read in our daily newspaper, written by a youth worker named Les Twentyman.Les has been a tireless speaker for the homeless youth in our society but his voice so often goes unheard. We need to reach out to these people and show we care instead of pushing them aside in the hope that the problem will go away Suetang |

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sue, this is sooooo yerrible, sweet friend, it breaks my heart to see so many caught up in this act of selfishness and pride in oneselves while those who need it the most are left like lonely angels! (big hugggsssssss) My heart goes out to all these special people and I only wish we could all get closer to one another and help them with all our hearts, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Suetang, this is stunning, and it is a shame the way our world is today. So much sadness in it. Great write and very expressive and true to heart. Sauni @~~~>~~ |

Sue: I hope many, many people read your poem. This is such a tragic situation and it's worldwide of course. There must be more help for these children of the streets and the other forgotten people! Betty Lou Hebert |

This was a writing of hope for change. You did a superb job Sue of telling it like it sadly is. I hope and pray that things change for the better. For some of these kids it is over, but for some there is much to do. God Bless You Sue, Roger |
