Where hope lies, life soon stirs
among the roots of flowered dirt.
She pokes her head out, blossom-up
and sees the sky for its blue waves.

Where hope lies, life soon stirs
among the trillion trill of birds.
A flitting thrush a tremble wing
a singing light of curve and air.

Where hope lies, a life must still
to find itself the greening bed.
To sleep a fitting sleep of else.
To hope no more -- another's bread.
