Hello, This is my first post to this forum, I found myself on google today, one of my poems in the Open Poetry # 33 forum is floating out there on google for everyone to see. I want to know how to keep this from happening, this is my sanctuary, I really need my Anonymity.. Is there anything I can do to prevent this, and The one that is searchable may need to be deleted from the thread.. Help Jennirey |

Another common name for forums is bulletin boards, and the analogy is pretty apt. If you put something up on the bulletin board at work or at your local supermarket, there's an implied suggestion you want it to be read. The Internet is a VERY public place. With the exception of our MC section, all of our forums are open to the public. People don't even have to register to read here. And, yea, that's going to include search engine spiders. The key to anonymity, like the key to keeping any other secret, is to not reveal personal details to anyone. On the Internet, you simply can't whisper softly enough to keep something secret. If you say it at all, it can potentially be heard by everyone who wants to listen. |

I'm sure, Jen, that a Moderator can and will remove that particular poem if you give them a direct link to it. But then what? Google only displays two links per search from any one site. Search on jennirey and, yea, that poem comes up. But that doesn't mean that's all Google has on file. Click on the More results from piptalk.com link and you'll see a few more of your poems. If you ask a Moderator to remove "River of Angst," another one of your poems is just going to bubble to the top to take its place. And again, I ask, then what? |

I understand what you are saying, I know i now have no venue to publish my most private thoughts.. I dont care if they are viewed in here.. I care about those around me out here viewing them. The other that is shown when you click on view results with the omitted results shown. Is not and would not damage my relationships. I will just choose not share anything like the other anylonger, but is it possible still to have "river of angst" deleted from Message thread.. And I am asking of you as an administrator. I have clicked on the contact us in the "Open Poetry" forum and Clicked on Admin, and Email an admin and chose your name. I tried to resolve this with out a post about it. |

It's done, Jen. Of course, that won't remove the link from Google right away, but anyone finding it in Google should get a 404 error if they click on the link. Hope that helps! |

jennirey, If you want you work read but still be anonamous then maybe you need an alais id on here. Then you can post anything and not worry that certain people who may read will be offended because they won't connect it to you. But of course you must keep your identity secret to all, because everybody has a confidont other then the person telling them the next juicy bit of secret info. And believe me it gets around like wild fire. Parker |
