How is it that i end up one page on for Netscape under the search for "poems" but don't do anywhere near so hot on other sites? http://search.netscape.com/search.psp?cp=nrpkwphoptop&search=poems&pagecp=srp [This message has been edited by Christopher (03-18-2002 01:32 AM).] |

If I understand your question, Chris, you're asking why CH gets ranked differently on different search engines? (I know it's pulling from the ODP Directory, but it's still a search…) If so, the answer is simple. All of the search engines use different criteria to determine the ranking. Otherwise, we wouldn't really need multiple engines, but would just get the same results all the time. Even that's a little over-simplified, because even a single SE changes its algorithms from month to month, although seldom drastically. |

understood there - but are the alogorithms so very different that i woudl be on page one of Netscape's search, and yet can go ten pages deep on Google on the same search and still not find CH? a little disheartening! |

With those two as examples, you're talking about night and day. Major differences in what they consider important. And, of course, you're looking at a fairly competitive one-word search term, too. Are you in Yahoo? Strange as it may seem, that makes a difference to Google … |
