I would like to know how to start a website, and am wondering if there is any way to do it without expensive software or paying some internet website starter. Can you help me? |

the BEST website for free webspace is http://www.web1000.com 50mb free webspace, subdomains, no popups, no banners, no BS. Just go there and sign up for it. It's a very good service. If you need to learn how to do HTML, there are plenty of good resources. I used http://www.echoecho.com to learn HTML myself, it has some very helpful tutorials. As for FTP, you'll need a client if you don't have one already. Just go to http://www.download.com and search for an FTP client, or http://www.web1000.com has some listed on its site as well... Good luck with everything, Wind! Let me know when you're done and I'll put you in my links section. I'm not 18, but I'm not going to do anything bad, so it wouldn't hurt. But what am I going to say? Web site for adults without nudeity is the only remotely acceptable thing I can find. Never be normal! |

There are actually several ways you can work on it, Wind, depending on your preference and how much effort you want to put into it. I'm going to assume you have a pretty good idea of what you want your site to look like and say (if not, that should really be your first step) and am going to give a brief explanation of the two different types of programs you can use for designing a web site. Optino 1 - Coding. You can design a web site / page using any standard text program, such as notepad, wordpad, MS Word, etc. You can write out the code, save teh file as an html document, post it on the web, and voilla! Of course it's not that simple, you have to learn the coding, etc. But it's certainly one option. Option 2 - WYSIWYG - which stands for What You See Is What You Get. It is a program type that allows you to design your website visually. There are a few minor drawbacks to using this type of software, but nothing I think a beginner needs to worry about. This is probably the most common way to design personal websites as it can be much easier than coding. However, I will say that a good understanding of the HTMLanguage can be very helpful and open up much. So feel free to ask more questions about either or both of these and get a feel for which direction you'd like to go, then we can take the next step. Chris |
