What of this dread that all will end Before dawns new light of day Before my gathering work, undone, Or with my children, boundless play And when I consider intimate, Simple pleasures, so desperate attune With all those nights I dream of your touch While roses, unattended still bloom And I fear the dark hours ever nearing When I imagine your sweet charms no more Or speak these words, but for only your ears "My dear, I love you!" Then at the cold door Of eternity stand, and forever alone, I cry Till tears enough the oceans fill, And wash all the clouds from the sky Rf (Previously Posted on OP24) |
