The morning's first cup of Cafe French Roast draws me downtown like a magnet on toll roads that cut like a knife through the heart of suburbia. My life's blood running down concrete canyons, transfused by towering monsters of glass and of steel. Silhouetted by cover of dawn's smoggish ghost light luring countless thousands to their underground parking garages. - Thank God for the company subsidized 'cafe' serving Starbucks to the stream of prisoners, freely "going up"! - Not much here for comfort or renewal. Suppose I'll feign either, as long as my badge works tomorrow and the coffee is fresh. Then reminded this suffering is to but afford summer's long, passionate, winding road to Colorado. Will your snow all be melted, brook trout be plenty heavens hold stars you can reach out and stir? wild flowers playfully dance on the rain breeze, while falcons scream warning to all life below? All your horizons are draped by cover of snow, and in this place I know peace. If they ever close the cafe, I'm so out of here! Rf |

Robert... this style sits well on you... and you carried off in grand fashion! I don't think I had anything to do with this... this is you..being..and telling without pretense or preconcieved idea of form... truly... this has become my favorite of yours..and love the ending.. the slight twist to let the reader chuckle and associate their own feelings about work or a job..to the poem. Good stuff.. I have enjoyed your joining us here a great deal.. |

CpatHair, The credit due you is your poetry's lure to try something less structured - more from the gut...not something I try, often. You "nudged" me there...and now, you know. Rf |

from the gut..Robert... that is in my book what makes things real.. write them the way you would or do feel them..put yourself there and then..write it. I hope to see more of these from you... can't wait until Duncan reads it..and the mothy one..( laughing) they will enjoy... |

I agree with Ron, you should explore this side of your pen more, it suits you well. You captured the day to day mundane and then escaped from it in your poetic dreamscape. Well done poet sir " ... And think not, that you can direct the course of love ... |

Ya know, in real life, I'm rarely this late...lol. I have to agree (and Ron, you sure know what I like...), this is a remarkable bit of writing. I like it on a lot of levels, one being the city. You wrote an often written scene, with freshness. Liked the way you walked us through the scene. Very good job of that. And of course the last line. Perfect amount of real you to it. Memory willing, I'll look for more from you... ! |

Something has to keep us going, Robert... at least you know what your draw is... literally... figuratively... and me? Smiling here! |
