The Journey, Part II

Ginger’s Challenge
20. If I Could Write A Column

“It is the trod we took decades ago
to come back and fit the arch of foot, now,”

It was a stumble of my day
that clicked me back, to what…states ago…
a few decades gone now,
with warm embraces only remembered
of those that left…

I had only known one state of life, warm,
comfortable, no change of season, no ice on Christmas
let alone a flake or two, except in our family,
and we’re not talking dandruff…or snow…

and I feared, with unthinking hold of breath, I would
always just be “here”… as the sense of itch to travel
embedded like a tick into my skin,
extracting my blood of time into a gist of need

and oh, was it felt, not just by me, but perceived
by them that had been here, and there, and they recognized
the tick in me, a time awaiting adventure,
so The Family Trip was planned, as roots were uncovered,
for I, a product of transplants, beautiful folk of
rosey geraniums, wonderful sweet-peas beside
nasty-tursiums, simple beans crawling up booming cornstalks,
people of earth, native of places other than here,
who thought the gold coast held their dreams,
but realizing,
not everyone wears gold…but are silver
in nature, quick and mercurial,
and needing treasures of their own…

so the woman of bread and the carpenter man
made plans, wrote on cards,
“put the bean pot on in full,” so relatives and friends
received, read, and planned for the invasion
of the homecomers…

thus was the seed of the transplants
returned to her roots…

and 1970 was the beginning of much,
with pages still to be turned…

a sketch of time beneath my hand
which may unfold

in Ginger’s column.

The invasion of the homecomers! Yup, you got that smile back on my face...what a wonderful read I'm looking forward to more. Thank you.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

you write of time and make it timeless....
a gift of your muse--past, present and future.
