You know i love you
even though i never use the word.
You act like it's something you want,
like you don't have enough.
So many people want you,
it makes me feel, passing and common
when i have always been the antithesis of order.
Now, I am just another casualty of your following,
fawning and flirting, really
no better than those little boys standing in their pants,
for your full lips and goading eyes,
working behind the service desk.
Yes,
i have been cut down to the pediment of my instincts
as a person
when you look at me
and i feel forced into a wicked smile or stupid grin.
I want to be different.
I want not to want you, like them.

You know i love you,
but so does she,
not to mention your girlfriend
and all the unspoken tenses of people
that have not found the nerve to give you their name like a bid.
It makes me crazy that you keep a tally
of trailing hopes and prospective whims...
broken people waiting to be shattered,
i'd call out a warning if i wasn't listening
for my number.
When i was a real girl, i could cut the strings,
but now i'm knocking on the wood that i've been turned in.
