Oh, I love to watch you hop, slither and slide in your gracefulness and cunning as you try to hide behind the strewn decay of today seeking comfort and safety where there is only destruction visible to the naked human eye. You inspire me with your ability to manage your environment with survival techniques that appear to be so simple. You avoid confrontation whenever possible, but when cornered.. some of you will strike a blow that you know the offender will not soon forget. Yet it is but a gentle blow, nary a nibble or cut by comparison to the deadly forces two legged creatures unleash upon our Mother Earth. Oh, my gentle friends who stay so close to the ground, I wish you great Peace and Safety, for I believe you are the meek whom God has said shall inherit the Earth. This is so very moving dear midnitesun. I so enjoyed reading this. And I love the comparisons you make. Oh the two legged creatures are the most dangerous ones indeed! Love, Margherita |

Nice too see someone recognize the littlest of things in such a kind way! Wish we would all open our eyes and see reality. Poetry is love and love is life. |

Midnite--When things human overpower me and I feel like weeping, I'll remember this poem and the appreciation of more simple things and smile. Thank you for that. |

This was a great poem. I was listening to a song that remineds me of this a few seconds ago. I look and I listen, does not everyone? |

with mans giant steel monsters and such effective weapons for destroying all that happens in his way i was wondering if maybe it wasn't the roaches that would inherit whats left of the planet...enjoyed Kacy. Live like it's your last day... |

Ray, I used to say it would be the roaches. But I don't care for roaches so I chose toads and snakes, which I happen to like. ![]() Ron, thanks! yes, it's intended to be read on multiple levels. |

Some of those snakes are far from kind... and don't slither away to avoid confrontation, either. *S* Between heat and drought, the ones visiting my dad's garden last summer were quite ill-tempered... a water moccasin almost killed the cat, a rattlesnake struck the dog... and my little nephew was spared only because my hoe attacked the attacker... you're welcome to my share of the snakes! LOL I liked this very much! *S* |

LOL, you are so right suthern! I really had garter snakes in mind when I wrote this one. My daughter has two in her reptile aquarium. ![]() [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (03-26-2003 11:24 PM).] |

Yes, it is scary, isn't it? The snake is so often maligned, almost always being an evil source in literature. I decided to free the snake from it's proverbial bad guy status. ![]() |
