You've turned your back
and I cannot see past the horizon of you
we are not even distant friends
balanced between two worlds
going our own way at last.

I can no longer conjure up a thought
to settle my indifference
and that troubles me
there is no spanning the time
the feeling doesn't come and go
it has flown away on it's own.

Leaving me missing
forever postponed
canceling out on false hopes
I have no claim to make
because I don't ever want to go back
to lay my soul bare
swaying beneath your palms
for shame, the blame that taunts me.

You cut deeply and left a scar
but you can't weaken my pain threshold
however perfect my imperfections
I don't bleed that blue.

I have broken my promise
waving in surrender
removed from the pain of losing
while trying to hold onto a piece of you
something, anything
to keep for myself
but you are scattered
remotely devoted
never mine for the taking.

Sadly
as we approach the end of the runway
and the streaming patterns change formation
fading into the sunset
I have no tears left to leave you.

Been there...done that. But couldn't begin to describe as you have so aptly done! Once again, an excellent write. Hopefully, your biggest fan.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Lori,

I read this a couple times. Liked the title.

Though simple, I think, for me, the most meaningful line is this:

"We are not even distant friends"

Do I understand that! (My choice)

The entire poem is heart touching.

Enjoyed very much, Hugs, Pat

..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons..

This is magnificent.  How well I can relate to the emotions that well up and evaporate for our own sake.
You are such a good mentor for the sensible and the spirited in all of us.
You haven't been bleeding...that sounds wimpy...Not what I think of when I read you.
Let the waters run...you own a most beautiful river there! ThisDiamond

ok ok, no more wimping out either.

Kathleen, that was awful nice of you.
Thank you doesn't seem like nearly enough.

But I do, very much.

Well, you wowed me with this one.

"for shame, the blame that taunts me",

oh my, yes! You spoke my heart with those words. Thank you for this.

Now you've bumped up all sides of my imperfections.

There's your proof, I am truly every shade of blue, depending on my mood of course.

Thank you WhiteRose~
