NOTE: This is what my boyfriend Liam has to deal with at home. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I want to know what it is to act adult I am of adult age But my parents won't let me grow If I don't do as they say They threaten me And it scares me to death I try to please my parents Since I am still under their roof But sometimes I feel Like what I do isn't enough I pay rent And sometimes they still threaten to kick me out I don't know what to do But just pout I try to find a job But jobs are so scarce where I live I don't search everyday Because there are hardly any job offerings But my Dad always threatens if you don't get a job There goes your intenet And your out on the street To think I pay them rent I help them out And still I feel like they won't let Me act like an adult I try my best to act like an adult But all my parents do Is act like I am their little puppet They can do what they want with I scream in my head "I am an adult." But dear sweet lord When will they let me act like one And not treat me like a child Cold hands means a warm heart |

Oh, my friend, I read your frustration here, and understand. I guess it's easy to give opinions when you're not the one stuck in the situation, so all I will say is that your parents love you, so much so that they are holding on a little too tight. Time will fix that. I think it helps to write, for all of us, and as poets we write what we know. You've done that very well here! I admire your honesty... ![]() Accept these small gifts from my gypsy soul, and let the magik happen! ~~S~~ |

I thought this way too and left home at 17...I can look back now and see things I could not see then...and I wish I would have known. I'm sorry, but I don't see where the life you write about is so hard...having a teenaged daughter of my own now and seeing a parent's viewpoint, I think your friend should either get his act together, or move out, then he will see how hard it is and how good he had it. |

Julie, I can feel your frustration in this, but try not to be too hard on him. I had (have) very controlling parents, too, and they would control me even now if I let them. In their eyes, I will always be their little girl. "Love makes the world go around" |

I know how he feels, I to left home at 16. Now im 20 years old and moved back in about a year ago, i pay rent i do my share. but the little things like my father telling me i should go to bed. they drive me up the wall, someone times i just want to leave but i know how hard it is out there now and going to school and living on your own is very hard. so i just smile and nod, yes i scream alot in my head, helps me deal with things. poetry is also a way of not freaking out and really doing somthing you regret, you might not want people to really know how you feel but in a place like this you still get it out but no one really knows who you are. anyways im just just going on you know my usual blah blah blah. i just wanted to say great write i know how you feel. ![]() (big hugggsssssss) Oh Julie, I'm sorry you and Liam are facing these situations, sweet friend, I guess some parents just love you so much and it forms some sort of overprotective chain that can be impregnable! (sigh) Just talk it over with your parents and may he do the same, tell them how you feel and let them let you be a little more flexible, that is all part of being an adult, you're developing roots and wings, so encourage them to let you fly, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Julie, thank you for sharing! ![]() May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |
