This one was written when I was asked what 'I wanted life to be' In my mind I see it how I wish it will always remain, My conscious comprehending what must be If our dreams are to touch that which they promise. I hope that the eyes that stare back daily from the mirror Are ever clear, alive with the starlit reflection of you And not blunted or dulled or filled with a sadness That we do not deserve nor look for. I want so much for the laughter to be ribald And hearty, and everything that you make it With every cherished smile and winsome wink that Graces your adorable face. The nights, they are to be long, languid and lustrous - Here is where we will drift from what is real and Pass into our time, our place Helter-Skelter and dizzy, and full of passion. Night ending late we will find our days, And these I determine will be short when we must be parted But so long and full of rapture when the Gods allow us To spend them where we belong - locked in a clinch That never tarnishes nor fades. I ask for, pray for, wish for nothing less than a pool Of wonder that is endless, a well that cannot run dry, A magic that amazes more as days pass by, And is made of that which defies belief and is never A parlour trick or a slight of hand (as graceful and perfect as that hand may be). I ask for much I sometimes think, but then I remember That in you I have all this and more And the thoughts of what must be are softened into The here and now, wish becomes reality, Our future beckons with a sublime certainty And I sleep easy in your arms. |
