Sometimes A Road

Sometimes a road
takes you.
Just by being,
by lying here
beneath these trees,
showing you the curve
around the crown of
this particular hill
in just this sunlight
under these very clouds;
by giving hints of all
the scenes beyond
and past beyond,
it chooses you and
takes you off to where
it hopes to go.
Everyone has such roads,
and though each road is
different, every curve
and every hill unique,
in this they are the same:
Although you think
you do the taking,
sometimes a road
takes you.

OH the aimless drifting of the vagabond. To care not where a road leads just so long as it stays advanced of hunger.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
But I wandered off into the trees
And fooled 'em both....

It's been a long while
since the road got to take me,
but I do know
it happens...
and this, Sir, was an enjoyable read.

Thank you, Ed!

Well Nan, it is a fairly seductive highway, after all....lying there under the trees, showing you its curves and promising more.... I had fun with that part too!

Well? If you don't look up once and awhile, you'll find that the road has ended at a shack on a river.

Good one, Ed

Ed, I was going to write a really serious reply...
that is until I read The other Ed's reply. LOL
It struck me really funny. His reply made me think that
if a person doesn't look up every now and then, they're
going to run smack dab into the trees in the woods
you commented about.....

It's a really good poem, Ed, as all yours are,
by the way.

Hugs,
Ethel

Ratleader - I've drifted over many of those roads over the years. I'm not sure if I was taken by them, or them by me...

It is those times when we are left with no choice but to follow through and continue down the road we're on, simply because it feels right.

And that's a very good feeling!

Then sometimes you lose control and crash into the tree which leaves you stunned, numb, and unable to move.
Nice write!!!!
