Sleep that quickly slips away eyes welcome this first summer day. A pair of shorts a tad to small. A leather glove a well worn ball. Last years favorite torn T-shirt. Bare feet anticipate the dirt. A pony-tail pulled up in haste. Summers here, no time to waste. Down the stairs and through the screen. A piece of toast is all she'll bring. She's off and running to the park. Mom warns, "be in this house by dark." She sees them there, she must be late. But in the past, they'd always wait. She hollars out, they must have heard. "Hey wait, I always cover third!" They turn to stare, expressions change. She wonders why their acting strange. This Tom-boy doesn't realize, that time has changed her in their eyes. A fullness here, a softness there. Pubescent eyes try not to stare. This young girl doesn't understand, that time has dealt the cruelest hand. One boy steps up, "You can not play!" "No girls allowed, now go away!" She wipes away her angry tears, from eyes that have not cried in years. A bloody nose, a skinned up knee, to her it was a victory. She trudges home, may not have won, but figured out.. that boys are dumb! Remember me with a smile on your face, or please don't remember me at all. |

Oh summer.. How I love it.. The main thing I love is swimming. The cool water, hitting you, taking away all your worries, and the feeling of nothing but the water surronding you.. Making you feel as if you were flien.. I love that.. lol Anyone can write, But only poets can capture the heart. |

Lucie, this is really good and brought back memories of me when I was growing up. I had mainly boys around the neighborhood who I played with, until they started realizing I was really a girl.....LOL Most of us still remained friends when they got over the stage of thinking it was sissy-fied to like a girl... lol@the last line Oooh with everyone writing all these season poems, it makes me ache for warmth! We have nearly a foot of snow still...I want it gone! I'm sick of looking at white....I miss the green!!! -sigh- Anyways, totally loved this! I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man. |
