Make Me Believe (3/6/03) She gazes out mist-covered window Pondering her life Wondering why so much just isn’t right She slowly moves from window’s ledge To beds edge, on knees Clasping hands awkwardly Dear God, she begins I know I have committed many a sin, But you must admit, my road to travel had so much wrong It wasn’t always easy to remain strong I have faltered and question if you are even there So I come to you now, my soul bare Tell me why as child I was made to suffer such pain Can you explain? Why the one who is suppose to provide protection Taught me the searing emptiness of rejection? Please God show me a sign Why love and acceptance has been so hard to find And when found, you took away The one I needed to stay She taught me how to laugh and fight for me She showed me how strong I could be But you allowed her to be taken In pain and agony, she was forsaken So tell me again why I should believe When a sign I have yet to receive Shall I remind you of a marriage gone horribly bad? Oh that’s right, you watched as I lost all that I had And now I am but a lonely shell Of a person gone through hell Yet I still want something to believe in So grant me absolution from my sin Give me a tiny clue as to where you are Convince me you are never far Amen She stands on shaky legs Hoping for hope Wanting more than just to cope Approaching window once more She realizes something has changed And saw what she had prayed for There in the skyline Though no rain, or sunshine A brilliantly colored rainbow God’s own design |
