standing on a shadow's lace

I Can Not Deny

I can not deny you
no more than
I could stop breath
from entering lung
or heart to stop
this beat of pump
I could not deny you
and would not
change a moment
to feel the height
I felt
or the touch
that went to depths
low beneath skin
and how you
could not deny me
so I could carry you
in the pit of my bones
even now as they ache
and though
tears show
the greatest of sorrow
I have known true joy
and if this trace
only leaves
marks of memories
I still
can not deny it
