Pray for me, Mama Your son is off to war To do the bidding of his country Who has called him to die. He is brought under the face of eternal hope For those to whom he owes no favors Do the even care at all All they care is his nation has left him here To fight for the rights others feel they deserve Ask him why He only knows that his friends Once so fresh and so young Have grown too old, too callus Too Weary with life Pray for me, Mama Your son is home from war With all the hurting and his bitterness Embedded in his heart He has fought here and lost all hope of eternal life And the promise of peace of mind Does he even care at all All he needs is for his nation to love him more And give him the rights others feel they have earned Ask them why They only know their friends And the public at large have all been safe They don't know Freedom must be earned I just came across this, and figured I would add it here. It was written in 1990 after I spent the evening listening to my father and his friends from Vietnam talking, and then going home, and hearing the news about Iraq... |

Ringo - before I even got to the bottom - instantly - Vietnam - huge fanatic - kind of sick fascination with the suffering and just wrongness of war - especially what happens to those who selflessly serve or those that were forced to . . . haunting - nicely done xxoo |

great work, I'm being shipped out soon, I got called back up. (my second time) I only have one year left, and this is the way I feel. we fight for a lot of people and when we get home, we have problems with people who protest the war, but we fight to keep them safe and protect there freedom of speech. |
