Toley’s Bend winds the Buffalo around High limestone to face a broader part of open And a couple of long slow holes of water That miss the morning sun because of oaks grabbing in greedy pull of leaf at early slanted rays. You can camp there on gravel Like we did that summer evening After floating a few hours of sundripped ecstasy Or simply go on down to one of the established grounds Where the ice machine grumbles all night And drunken river rats build fires large enough To threaten god. We stayed, Soaked in cooler water the red skin of our exposure And lay like lizards to put heat back into blood Lethargic from a winter of hibernating. Later, under star broken bowl of black We watched a pale crescent rise To the tune of crickets singing halleluiahs To passing streams of thought Before we touched. Then Toley’s Bend became ours As mingled with fertile earth we joined spring In a ritual mated to seasons and to birth And lay in spent nakedness on cool bed Morning found a blush On water and cheeks That did not stain as wine But is just as intoxicating in memory [This message has been edited by Cpat Hair (03-04-2003 02:23 PM).] |

Loved the images this one conjured up Ron! ~Smiles & Hugs, Nancy~ ~ Trace my body with your words.. |

Cpat, Oh my goodness, what a delight. Great imagery, an understatement! "Oaks grabbing in greedy pull of leaf" "Sundripped ecstasy" "Built fires large enough to threaten god" "Star broken bowl of black" "Passing stream of thoughts" These, but a few of the many great lines. A real treat. Enjoyed greatly, ..without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.. |
