On Not Dwelling on the Dwelling Next Door I try not to dwell on my next-door neighbor’s brick mailbox, the one that imitates ours, except ours isn’t crooked and doesn't have year-round Christmas lights adorning a statue of Jesus. And I avoid looking at the sixty-foot flagpole in his backyard, with its tattered American flag and a blue bowling ball ornament, even though I’m reasonably certain it must be illegal to fly our flag ragged. I’ve refrained from speaking to him about the shiny red trailer parked to block my view of oncoming cars as I back out of my driveway and yes, I do rely on my children to tell me if the coast is clear. I simply nod when he speaks to me, since I’ve never heard him say one damn, sane thing. So far, I’ve resisted spraying his five barking, barking, barking Chihuahuas with the garden hose, and I did not run them down when I saw them loose on the street. So far. © 2003 Core [This message has been edited by Corinne (03-03-2003 07:28 PM).] |

Cor... like the form..and the fact while it can be read as a rant about a neighbor...the message also applies to all neighbors at the national level as well.. repeating barking... adds to the feel of how the noise never seems to end..and not large but..a small irritating noise.. barking being an excellent choice here over yipping in my mind... goos stuf... but I truly expect to see good stuff everytime I read one of your poems...and have yet to be dissapointed. |

(big hugggssssss) Oh Corinne, arrogance is something I don't tolerate either, and even when a neighbor or someone does so, I'm not jealous, I rather pity those kind of people as they have yet to realize it is the simple gifts of courtesy that are more valuable! (sigh) This is very heartfelt, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Corrine, this is a very good description of a lot of neighbors, I'm sure. You did it very well... Hugs, Ethel |
