Eye to Eye

You are distorting my thoughts,
the waves in the glass thinning me out,
a false image to look upon.
Behind me stands that shadow,
but he is up against the wall now,
for support, that I can no longer give.

Strange, how tall he use to appear to me,
and now, the shrinking of his image has begun.
Inside me is the turmoil, wanting out,
tired of its give and take, just wanting peace
and a love that has no boundaries.

I can barely remember feeling the warmth of you
flowing over me, and the hold of you,
the kisses deep and meaningful.
Where has it all gone, why now,
at this time, do you appear as another
to remind me, of a love that was felt
so much greater than what resides inside me now.

What am I to think when only yesterday, the calm returned.
How would I know that tomorrow would have been the now
to seep through the cracks in my promises of acceptance
and pull me apart once more, in the knowing
that I will never understand the purpose of yours
or mine, in having met and faced each other eye to eye.
