It seems, that no one really knows what is going to happen. Global Warming verses a Ice Age Hey how about another Comet strike Or a major volcanic eruption that could spread enough ash in the air to chill the planet causing a major extinction. The Comet and Volcano are more likely than the technological induced weather change. What created more destruction, Mt. St. Helens or the technology of the entire west coast for the last 20 years, oh what the heck, last 100 years. Perhaps you should ask those people from Pompeii. This does not even take in to account the hurricanes or tornados that are regular destructors. I say lets tame nature, it’s the real destructive force around here, Or conversely Let’s just evolve to a space going people and leave this Big Blue Marble to it’s own devices and anyone that wants to stay without the benefits of technology can remain behind. I'm sure Mom Earth can purge all traces of us in a few hundred year, perhaps a thousand. Just my rant Gloom |

It will certainly happen, Gloom. Earth's history has revolved around glacier eras and scientists agree that there will be another one, be it 100 or thousands of years from now. There is also a supposedly authentic report that, within 700 million years ( I think) the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies will collide....poof! It's very possible tha Mother Nature will find reason to eradicate us (if we don't do it for Her). Earth will survive - we won't and everything around us now and all that we hold to be important will have vanished. Ask a dinosaur...... |

So, ok, I was going to give Denise the gold star for her reply, until I read Chris' comment... meanwhile, I'll lay in a supply of sweaters and suntan lotion, just in case... |

My geology teacher actually said that the technical time between ice ages is when there are NO polar ice caps or anything. So technically we're still in the ice age.. bwah! Oh, make me Thine forever |

More likely we run out of oil while we are still gluttons for it and we kill each other off for the last few barrels. (Gee, aren't we doing that already???) We do know that we will run out. No theory there, just the fact. e |

There's plenty of unrefined oil around...mostly on two feet. |

We have a very large astroid passing by us. Hurricanes popping up over and over hitting the same area, and Volcanos getting all hot and heavy. It doesn't seem like just an accident that this is coming to be at the same time as a Presidential debate in Florida. |

Well, all that hot air from politicos and pundits is sure to affect air currents and cloud formation. Seriously though, the last Ice Age was still in recession during the early Medeival Age in Europe. There was a reason so many nobles wore heavy furs, even in summer. Since then, the average surface temperature has risen slowly. By the 1600's, furs were completely out of the question during the hotter summer months. This is all just the cycle of Nature. |
