No Profanties, No personal attacks, or obscenities? Are the words Damn and Hell Profanities? for children? ( It is in my household) Just curious to know what curse words are allowed and which ones aren't since it is a family place? I am confused... Some replies in most forums, have these words in them?( being used in the wrong kind of way) Some by regular members and some by moderators? Is there a list of curse words we can chose to use or not use? I would never use any, distasteful if you ask me. Just wandering before I start to post more poetry here.If these words are allowed, I will post my poetry somewhere else. Does personal attacks mean using personal names to put someone down? attacking them personally? I have a nine year old and he reads poems and replies at this site for english projects in reading and poetry... |

Beyond that, each and every poem, along with its content, is assessed for its own merit. There are many borderline words that may have legitimate definitions that allow them to be used properly in verse - Those should be allowed to remain. There are some that are a bit "mature" for a nine-year old. Those can be posted in our Mature Content forums which your son can't access. Personal attacks are considered to be posts where a member criticizes a poet rather than critiquing a poem. Critique needn't be derisive in nature, and is far more supportive to a writer when offered as a constructive response. This is a large site with thousands of members. What people say to each other outside our PiP walls is their own concern, but what they post here needs to be respectful to our community of writers. That's simple common sense. Obsenities - That's a word with many connotations. We don't post graphic violence, or depiction of harm to oneself or others. This is one of our most important foundational philosophies. We WANT you to be comfortable allowing your 9 year old to read here, and we want our 92 year old Muys (our eldest member) to be equally comfortable... and everyone in between. There's enough graphic violence out in the real world - and the cyber world... This is Ron's home. Violence has no place in his living room. We like it that way. Here's hoping you do as well... I'm just pleased as punch that the Alley guidelines I wrote way back in 1999, about a week after my 'member since' date, were read by at least one person. That totally made my morning!  |
