Okay, I'm not really angry, I just want someone to listen to what happened to me that's all...

Well, I served a customer at my mom's business yesterday and she insulted me, and it wasn't by accident, I know that she knew that she was being offensive.

Briefly, her five year old son smiled at me and said "you have the prettiest green eyes ever!"   After his comment, the mother moved right into my personal space and thrust herself into my face and squinted her eyes as she looked mine over; and then right in front of me she proceeds to tell her son "that's not her real eye colour, it's just a glare from the sun...and her lashes are fake."  I mean, what right does she have to say such a blatant lie, and? she does it right in front of me...she has some nerve.  The funny thing is that it doesn't surprise me at all, but, I do expect respect.

Well, after her comment, I politely said "no this is my real eye colour, and these are my real lashes, I'm not wearing mascara today either."   The little boy was sweet and smiled at me again, but, the mother loudly and angrily said to me "you're lying, you are wearing colour contacts and those lashes are store-bought and that's that!"
I said to her once more as politely and professionally as I could..."I am wearing glasses today, it makes no sense to wear contacts underneath and these are 100% my real lashes and eyecolour."
She then said "Well I don't believe you."  I realized at this point, I was in a lose-lose situation, so I just said "thank you for your business, have a nice day" and I walked away.

It's a shame that this woman is obviously so insecure with herself and that she is so superficial that she has to impose her negativity on me, when I am natural and I am honest.  And?  what kind of mother displays that sort of behaviour in front of her young child?!!  Like I said, this doesn't surprise me, many people, both men and women, assume that I wear falsies because my lashes are so long, but, truly they are real.  My father is french-italian and I inherited his long curly lashes.  They also assume that I wear colour contacts, but, I don't even own a pair of colour contacts!  My eyes are a unique deep blue-emerald shade, that's not my fault, blame it on my genes.  And don't worry, I am not the type of person who is full of herself, I actually am borderline insecure-confident, so rest assured that I don't strut my stuff in front of other men and women, so her comment was uncalled for.

It's sad that because Hollywood vanity is so prominent in this day and age that when people see a naturally "attractive" woman that they can't accept that it's real.
I understand that a person will ask "are your lashes real and is that your real eye colour?"  That question I can accept, it's human nature afterall, but, one thing, I'm really sick of is when they outright tell me that I'm a liar when I am telling the truth.  They are MY eyes afterall, no one has the right to tell me what my body is or isn't. That's so irritating and beyond rude.

Okay now I feel better, I'm not mad, nope not me

The woman was probably just jealous of you and resenting the attention her son gave you, a sure sign of insecurity, you sound very self controlled to me I would have been less restrained. I have a weekend job as a waitress and I really resent it is someone whistles to get my attention so once I had been serving a very arrogant man who had spoken to me like i was something he'd stepped in and then he whistled and clicked his fingers to get my attention and i couldn't stop myself, I asked him 'excuse me sir have you lost your dog?', he didn't take it very well. what i have decided to do next time a customer is really disrepectful i will ask very calmly 'not to talk to me in that derogatory manner' well that was my boss said i should do anyway

Well you did all you could given the circumstances, handling it as professionally as you dare. The woman was (is) a nasty beast. The important thing is the innocent child spoke the truth, something the hag couldn't handle. How 'bout a pic?

Melybee...how enchanting is this story!  You did the young boy a service, in not allowing his mother to drag you into an argument over what is real, and what is not.  Obviously, the young boy thought you to be real...and then...then...he saw a lady.

Bless your heart!

Well if you ask some about me they would tell you that I would bite her kneecaps (just kidding, well sort of) I may have come out with..."Oh, you're just jealous" then walked away.  I never get mad instead I get even!   The main thing is - you know who you are right, so getting angry doesn't help squat ever!  Some people are just plain ignorant, thank goodness for us   And, I agree how's about a picture of those long eyelashes and beautiful eyes?

I pass this way but once so I hope to meet you.

Thanks all for your understanding...
the funny this is, the lady was nice up until the end when her son complimented me, it was like she was Dr. Jekyll and Hyde, her personality took a 180 degree turn, but, her son was adorable and sincere, and that's why I tried my best not to lose my temper for his sake. Her silly comments don't really bother me anymore.

As for my picture?!!  Well, I've only emailed a pic of me to one poet here, and I asked him not to show anyone, as I don't feel that I am photogenic and I also would like to remain more anonymous and mysterious.  The only other poet here who knows what I look like is my close friend Chelsea, of course.

Since this is the internet, afterall, and I don't trust the 'jaded' individuals who might happen upon my pic and information, I'd rather not post a pic of me yet.  Don't worry, I trust the majority of the poets here, but,  for the time being, I want to remain mysterious...but I promise that eventually I will have a recent pic of me uploaded

Wow! What a character!
I feel sorry for her son who will undoubtedly become her victim for many, many, many, years to come.

Wow!
A miserable woman indeed.

And yes, her poor son will be the one to pay the
ultimate price, along with other innocent people like your self.

You handled yourself much better than I would have.
In fact, I think I would have offered her a nice poke in the eye …..

Well... you really had a sour apple there!!! I would have gone so far as to invite her to stick her finger in my eye and see if she could move the illeged contact lens....maybe a little tug on the lashes for effect.... and her son was so sweet and sincere.... I hope he rubs off on her... I run into unscratchable itches (you know what I mean) every day as a cashier. I admire your composure.  I would have given her directions to the shortest pier on the lake and told her to keep walking.... OR... smile sweetly and in that candy coated voice that is so well practiced among us customer service employees... told her straight out that you could at least tell that her lashes were not in the least fake and how full of it do you have to be before your eyes are that brown?... ( I am assuming they were brown.... my eyes are brown and consider them the most boring colour of the rainbow) Guaranteed, you have a much better grip on reality than she will ever have.   Be happy, move on.

Oh yes, and once in a while, look back and laugh at her....it will do you good.

Ps... coming to a city near you.... gonna be in TO for a whole month!!!! starting Monday

you exibited more self control than i would have. i would have challenged her to some eyelash pulling (i got long lashes too...as far as males go, so they tell me...) and i would have went first.
but then i love the movie clerks and i believe that the we, the clerks, get final say.
go rent clerks. your customer service may never be the same.

People like that are just jealous because when they see a someone who (in your case) has long lashes and pretty eyes and her kid says so, right in front of their mom, she is of course going to start what she did, and if I were you I would have walked away right from the start but I hope everything is good.

Take care,
Andrea

Melissa, when dealing with the public, you come across all kinds.  Don't let her rude behavior get under your skin.  She's not worth the stress.

It'a odd, but the boys in my family, including myself, ended up with long lashes and my sisters with the short ones. LOL

My niece wears reading glasses and her lashes are so long that they actually rub against the lenses.  Now that's getting TOO long!

I love eyes, they're my favorite feature.  I'm sure yours are lovely and this woman was just feeling a bit jealous.

I feel so sorry for that poor woman, Melissa...
How terribly insecure she must be...
I have also had people question whether my eye color is real because they are such a weird color...
They are dark green with brown flecks and dark blue around the edges...  I think I must have inherited a bit of eye color from each of my ancestors...  and for some reason, they are very shiny, and I have actually had people ask me if I had been drinking because they say my eyes are always "glassy".  But they always shine like that, and I hardly ever drink...except a glass of wine once in a while...
So, I guess we just have to have some patience with people who are insecure with themselves....  And that woman was probably jealous because her son noticed your eyes...
I feel very sorry for people like that...
~ good lookin hugs
