In the 1984 thread there seems to be a general agreement that any form of child pornography is a heinous crime. I most definitely agree, at least in cases where real children are abused to make it- the case of written stories about child porn doesn't strike me as quite as offensive... but I'm also not a mother yet... Anyway, I found an article here that says after the U.S. government busted the largest commercial distributors of child pornography, a company called Landslide Inc. headed by Thomas and Janice Reedy, Thomas was sentenced to life in prison, Janice, 14 years. According to the articles I have found on the subject, they were not creating any of the pornography themselves. My question is whether a man deserves life in prison for this distribution? You are more than the sum of what you consume |

He and his wife were selling access, thereby condoning child pornography. True, they didn't have a small studio for creating the videos and photographs, but they did charge for others to view such. They made a lot of money selling those children out. And, that was a choice. They didn't have to create that website and business. They didn't have to sell access to pornography, including child. But they did. They made a choice, and as adults, must pay the price for their actions, must take responsibility. Noone put a gun to their head and demanded they do this. But, I digress. I can only hope that this person is not put in general population. The majority of inmates do not like child pornographers, sex offenders with minors, or child molestors. And when a lot of inmates don't like you, that is not a good thing. |

This is probably the issue that I would classify as my own singularity -- the point at which my own laws break down and my universe does not function as expected. Even though I oppose the death penalty on principal the reason I do not own a gun is because of child abuse. The temptation and ease of just exterminating the abusers is too great for me. I used to do volunteer work for a child abuse center. I understand all of the conditions that set up child abusers -- normally they were once the abused -- but, I also know there is no 'cure' for their orientation -- which is why my inclination is to just shoot the [edits]. Peddlers of child pornography are feeding this blight. The more a pedophile is fed the hungrier he gets. (or she--uncommon but sometimes) The more proliphic the activities of pedophiles -- the more future abusers they are creating. So, I think life in prison for people who distribute this type of material are lucky to get off with a life sentence. They didn't create the "product," but rather paid someone else to create it for them. In that sense, it's little different than hiring someone to commit murder instead of doing it yourself. |

I think they deserve the highest punishment we can lay upon them, for they are the worst kind. They encourage child porn by saying: Hé guys, find some child and abuse it, I'll pay you a high price if you put it on film. Being a mother or not has nothing to do with it. Adults know what they're getting into, they have a choice, but a child hasn't and in my opinion, every one who missuses this kind of power on a child or an adult (rape), deserves to be punished in the hardest way possible. If that's the law then that's the punishment. If you think it is unjust you can work to change the law. Personally, I think the punishment fits the crime. |

Unfortunately our laws protect animal rights better than childrens. Most end up back out on the streets. This ends the life of a child as they knew it. It is a life sentence to them! They cannot outgrow it. They cannot live life as if it did not happen. They are raped beyond that which we can comprehend. And if I sold something, knowingly, that attributed in any way, this abuse to a child, I hope someone would hang me from the tallest tree and let the world see that the evil was gone. A long time ago I read "Lolita" by Nabokov, it gave an interesting insight into the mind of a paedophile, cleverly written in a highly romanticised form. I have also read 1"20 day of Sodom" that contains several references to acts of torture and child abuse. These books are considered classics. I think the main question is not the material in question but what was the intended purpose of this material. If it was promoting child abuse and been sold to people who were paedophiles then yes those people should get prison. It is the law of western society to protect children, there is a reason why there is a law against underage sex. IT is morally wrong to treat children who have not reached sexual maturity and a certain semblance of adult hood in a sexual nature. shadows flicker sweet end tame |
