It had to happen on my day off....fired some people..demoted some people..cut pay..moved people around...they say I'm safe...won't know for sure til Monday when I go back to work...to say I'm stunned would be an understatement....they took a Supervisor and moved him to one of the lowest jobs in the department... All I can say is they darn well better be taken some pay cuts themselves!!! As my grand sons say 'I need a boo boo sticker!'...sigh |

Yes, you do need a boo boo sticker. So will most of us. I've known for over a month now that my job may be "eliminated" but I won't be the only one. This has to do with the education service center I work for which won't be needing "staff development" because the superintendents of the schools say they are going to have to cut back and to keep their teachers certified, they're going to have to begin using their own teachers to certify their teachers...because they won't be able to sanction sending their teachers out to the courses that we provide for certification. But that's just my area. But the rumors persist from the state department as to how big and bad the cuts will be. Several women in my area are within my age group, give or take 5 years. Not ready for retirement, and certainly not ready to "start over again". On the upside, because our fiscal year begins in July, most of us will be able to remain until June. This certainly gives many of us time to "prepare" but it's like fighting a dream in the dark... I do hope that your position, Sharon, will be "safe". |

Just got a call from the big boss...they are chopping people left and right all over the city - someone is up there watching out for me because not only am I safe..my pay isn't cut! I will work different hours and will move to our main building! (hate that because it's ALL politics there!) But for now I'm ok...but still shaky because of what the others now must go through... I really think this is worse than the depression of the 30's...my son has taken in his father-in-law who lost his job..and we are all trying to 'make do'.. Sunshine..it sucks to work this long and have the rug pulled out from under us doesn't it? But at least there's a 'floor' under us..and we have family to give us love and support. Take care.... |

Oh brother Sharon, I am so sorry that you were even touched by what is going on down there. I know it is really horrible to go to work each day, just wondering when the axe will fall. You are too smart, and too big an asset to them trust me, as I know you. You could take on your job, the supervisors, and probably the Human Resources Manager and still have time for other things. Just put a deaf ear to those politics, they will do you in faster than anything - listen, but never respond. I know you already knew that! Okay off to scramble for Coldplay tickets at 10. Sheesh! What I don't to for my family! |
