I have been hearing so many rumors about the end of the world on 2012! Let's just say I am a little nervous that this might be true. I wouldn't mind discussing it, what people have heard, what they believe. I'm kinda nervous Enlighten me |

The main evidence put forward for that date is the Mayan long count calendar, the premise being that the calendar only goes up to 2012 so obviously everything ends at that point. Strangely my watch stops every 12 days or so if I don’t wind it and the calendar on my wall ends ominously on the 31st December 2009. So using the same logic applied to the Mayan calendar the end of the world is either 2012, December 31st 2009 or next Thursday. Unless I wind my watch in which case we’re safe into early April at the very least. |

If the world does, in fact, end on Dec 21, 2012, will you care on Dec 22? The way I see things is: If I worry about it, and the world does end... then I wasted my time worrying about it. If I worry about it, and the world does NOT end... then I wasted my time worrying about it. Either way... well, you get the rest. What would you attempt to do...if you knew you could not fail? |

huan yi, give me a reason to make me feel safe, if there is one possibly, I don't know? "Under fire"? what context are you referring too? -- Yes, maybe I am over reacting, but my main question to you guys was if you believed, which obviously, you have not answered. I believe that people's answers would bring a great discussion. honestly, I don't want to believe, but I'm kinda nervous, can't help it, don't want to die yet, ya know?!! ~Lana~ |

Grinch, one thing to ask you, how could you be so calm about it? Just curious, because a lot of people are freaking out. I just get really bothered by how many people just whip it off their shoulders, like nothing is going to happen, and say hey, how about a beer and sit on a lawn cheer calling the end of the world. from the perspective of one who I assume, believes, then tell me how you can just ignore it? Ringo, i have thought about that, and no, i wouldn't care. if the world doesn't end on the 21st, than they were wrong, some guy just drew a circular calender and ran out of room... but many "prophecy's" were supposed to happen, and guess what, they didn't. yah right? but that doesn't mean i wasn't scared when it was going to happen. Dear Lana, Huan Yi means being shot at by people who are serious about wanting to kill him. He's been through the experience as, I believe, a Marine. Being at a place where you believe you are in immanent danger of dying or watching somebody die changes you considerably. This doesn't mean that what you're feeling right now isn't very frightening. It is. It's also something that somebody brings up every couple of years and hangs onto one date or another. The year 1000, for example, was widely believed to be the end of things. There have been predictions since shortly after the death of Christ that the world was going to end very shortly indeed. Some folks in the first few years after Christ's death may not have gotten married because of their fear that the end was going to be so immediate. Only a few years ago, a small religious group committed suicide together to ascend to a spaceship they were sure was coming to pick them up. If you do some research, you'll find these examples don't even begin to scratch the surface of people's fear of the end of the world, and of the number of times it's been predicted, and of the number of times it hasn't happened. My entire childhood and the entire childhoods of my entire generation was lived under the fear that the world was about to come to an end due to atomic idiocy, or due to chemical or biological weapons. About this, there was some real possibility. In 1962 The U.S. and The Soviet Union came very close indeed, and there were apparently other occasions as well. It will happen someday. But I wouldn't say that 2012 is such a great candidate, certainly no better than 1000 or 2000 were. In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt if you put some of that free floating anxiety into dealing with environmental issues, so that you end up with healthier air to breath, and your kids do too, and so that there's enough food for you and your kids, and water. These are much more solid problems that need actual action to bring about solutions to prevent the human race from expiring from stuff that we can prevent. There are things you can do something about and things you can't. You can do something about the environment. The 2012 stuff is more of the same crazy distractions folks have been using since forever to keep from dealing with the important stuff that right in front of their faces. It gets people so nutty they sometimes forget to breathe. Come-on, Dark Star, don't get yourself so panicky you forget to breathe! You've got more important things to do. Sincerely, Bob Kaven |

bob, thank you for this, actually, i do feel a little at peace. this is actually what i came in, wanting to hear. I totally agree with you about the global warming issues, i would love to help fight it. The government is not fighting back as much as we need. Money is being spent else where. That makes me sad, ya know? Lana |

Maybe so, but not how long you live is right. But who wants to die, no one really. But yes, live your life to the fullest! One question. Why can you see us not living that long? curious Lana |

Well not word for word, but It's kinda on the same track. I agree with you to some point. Yes, live your life to the fullest, respect life, but I don't respect death. Its unfortunate, yes, but I don't believe dying is for the greater good. its kinda hard to just sit there, with all these rumors, ya know? |

Years ago in the late 60's I had a friend who was either in a cult or some religious group that believed the world was coming to an end. She sold all her belongings including a trousseau that she was collecting for her "maybe" marriage in the future... That was over 40 years ago and we are all still here. Other than an accident or health problem, tomorrow will be here also but like the others say, don't forget to live today. M |

it was about the computers crashing and we wouldn't be able to get stuff and pretty much just a bunch of chicken little's running around cause the sky was falling. Be prepared, as much as anyone can be, then just live. You should always have food and water for at least a week stored. That is just common sense. The basic needs met, for each member of the house. Candles, flash lights, some batterys...regular normal stuff. but that could be for anything really, mostly natural disasters and the like. |

How about 50 years, and a 10 mile deep nuclear fallout shelter with crates and crates of Newcastle Brown plus all Karen Carpenter's CD's and all Meg Ryan's DVD's. M Oh, and Ron to argue with. |

Dark Star, many years ago when I was a young married "girl" with one child, I had a school chum who said the world would end and so she would not marry. Today I do not know where she is, but I have had six children, thirteen grandchildren and five great grand children.I would say, do not worry but go about the business of living. sincerely late |

LOL. Karen Carpenter and Meg Ryan? With those choices made, I'm not sure there's anything left worth arguing argue about, Rob. |

If you throw in Meg Ryan I'm there. Lana -- yanno -- when I was in school -- more than a few years ago -- guys used to get gloomy and start talking about nuclear war and wondered if all this education was worth it too. It was a good excuse to get wasted and worked more than once at getting into a girl's pants. Live life. Make plans. Be flexible. |
