I can not pledge allegiance to the Union of Democratic People's Socialist Revolutionary Republics of America, one nation, one people, one Party, one Leader, one race, one big lie, one land where democratic institutions and due processes and free elections have been abolished because we are all working together; where the armed, jack-booted thugs of the People's Militia prowl the streets;
Where all school children must daily face the Hammer and Sickle and recite in unison;

Viva la Revolucion!

Tragically, I suspect that the use of the first-person, singular personal pronoun in the opening emphatic indicates that the writer does mean it.

Well Jaime if you don't want to pledge allegiance (whatever that means) to such a society it's just as well that you don't live in one.

Instead you live in a society (western society) where too many people have no clue as to what life behind the Iron Curtain was really like, and yet like to feel oppressed and hard-done-by as they sit in their air conditioned, centrally heated, over-fed complacent bubbles of selfishness with nothing better to do but throw idle verbal sling shots at imagined political slights and economic hardship. (I'm not saying you do this of course; this is merely a general observation based upon my personal opinion of contemporary behaviour).

Brad is right. It's time we of the so called civilised developed world stopped behaving like spoilt molly-coddled children, making up fantasy hardships and arguments because we have nothing better to do and nothing left to fight for except the size of our next car.

Or maybe there really is nothing more substantive to do than play juvenile games of "no he didn't yes he did" in these days of political and social baby-talk.

Wow.

How could such a post be so freely expressed if the state of our union was absolutely in such a state?

I know of a place where if you say a certain Man’s Name out loud with “Heil” as his intro, you could do 3 years in prison.

And what exactly does the Pledge of Allegiance have to do with President's Day? I mean it's just honoring President Washington, and/or all inclusive.

Oh well. One person’s turn of a screw is another’s “la révolution pour la vie.”

However, Mr. Brad. Dunno where you got that quote, but the whole Limbaugh reference is laughable. Obviously, he’s not useless. He makes people nervous from the sheer power of his EIB network. He’s so scary! God forbid we not tune in or we might not detect the “secret code” he gives all the conservatives and pact republicans who want to destroy America. He reminds me of Elvis and how his swagger and Devil’s music corrupted the youth of our nation. What’s not laughable is that there are people of all walks and party particulars who might believe this.

Is that Rush’s fault? No. But it’s a good indication of the mental imbalances of some who roam the pasture fields looking for the graven bull image to epitomize their fears.

     Where might I find this place?  Being weak on Geography, I tried out my map, and couldn't find it listed anywhere.

     Dystopias are, by definition, both unpleasant and fantasy-lands.  It's doubtful anyone wants to live in one, simply because they're painful.

     I join you in not wishing to live in this wretched sounding dystopia.  You and me, Babe!  All the way!
