. Gung Ho, The Fish Philosophy . . . Does anyone work at a place where either, or something similar, is being championed by their management? I gave the “Gung Ho” which was distributed to me to a friend to read, for her opinion. It took her all of about a half hour. She said simply: “It’s a book for idiots.” . |

Hi John -- I can see why yourfriend might be a bit dubious about a book and training program based on: The Spirit of the Squirrel: Practice worthwhile work The Way of the Beaver: Be in control of achieving the goal The Gift of the Goose: Cheer each other on BTW: Used copies of this are available on Amazon starting a 50 cents. There doesn't seem to be anything objectionable, or new, about the co-authors' notions, but they've both been in the motivational-hype business for a long time. On the very few occasions when I worked for short periods in an "organization," the basic motivation seemed to be "work hard or get fired." When working for myself, even while choosing "right work," the motivations was work hard or don't eat. Best, Jimbeaux |

Hi John! My goodness! It's great to see your sense of humor! In the 70's, I did the est thing pretty heavily, then eventually moved on. A lot of people who didn't do it call it a cult and so on, but I found it no more a cult than Basic Training. The trick in both instances, I think, is go through it, but don't get caught up in it. Neither my DI's or est "Trainers" had a direct pipeline to God or whatever, but they sure made an impression that last to this day. Would I sit still for either experience again, Nope! Best, Jim |
