RAVING!! Old saying: In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. Well, I got one eye, but I don't feel too kingly, or even princely. Maybe because the other one is fading 'way too fast. Blindness is an inevitablity for me, nothing to be done, because my diabetes isn't going to go away. I HATE IT! I've put up with a large helping of physical problems over the years, and managed to remain relatively detatched and functional. THIS ONE SUCKS. I guess it is because of my relationship to my willing service as a caregiver, and to reading and writing. I have a fear that when I lose those abilities, I will lose the better part of myself. This doesn't have to be entirely true, of course, but it feels VERY true at the moment. I'll get over it, but in the meantime, I feel like kicking the cat. PHOOEY ON IT! JIMBEAUX-WITH-NO SMILEY! |

Just want you to know that I read this and can think of no sense that I would miss more than sight. I wish there was a cure, a shot, a magic wand for you. My father had continual problems all of his adult with vision - he didn't see what I looked like until I was seven. He lived the remainder of his life with sight in one eye. I don't really know why I share this except to just say that I feel for you. Alison |

Thanks for reading and replying, Alison. These feelings have been building up in me for a while, and I just felt like shouting. Warmest, Jim Aitken |

My dear Jim, I am very sorry to hear this. But if it comes some day, of course you still are able to read and write and make jokes as usual and have fully understand of all reality because they are all in your memory. But let's say, if doctor says that if you will be blind in 10 years, you surely are able to postpone to 20 years. Only if you want to work on it. My father has diabetes since 65 and he took three kinds of medicine. 2 year ago, I visited him and he was very happy. He went shopping with me daily for a week at the age of 82. And he found that his blood sugar level was lowered. He reasoned that it was because he walked. So after that, he walks 1 hour after each meal. He usually sat to watch TV for 1 hour after each meal because it is news time. Now, he took only one medicine(he actually can stop that too) and have a very normal blood sugar level. I shall say that don't fully trust what your doc's words but trust human body is a well balanced system. It has great ability to heal itself if we respect it. So, move any movable muscles, exercise, cut sweet and other carbohydrate intake. No TV, no internet, no piptalk. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise, Exercise. It is not all to say that you have to go to fitness center to smell other's sweat. Go, Jim, Go!!!!!!! [This message has been edited by LadyTom (03-09-2008 12:43 AM).] |

I wish I knew how to comfort you... No words. No advice. And I'll spare you an empty emoticon. I love you Jimbeaux. |

. Question: Blind would you consider yourself worst off than a crap eating fly? My best friend, albeit for different reasons, is facing the same imminent future. He told me he will not live as a blind man. I calmly told him I disagreed. . |

Want some Cherry Garcia ice cream? It helps me when I just want to temporarily freeze the raving brain cells. Plus, it is just so danged good. Alison |

John: RE: "Question: Blind would you consider yourself worst off than a crap eating fly?" Nope, but I don't see myself as worse off than a crap eating fly while I can still see, either. In fact, I don't think about crap eating flies very much at all. RE: "My best friend, albeit for different reasons, is facing the same imminent future. He told me he will not live as a blind man. I calmly told him I disagreed." I'd disagree too. Alison: Cherry Garcia works. Thanx! Best, Jimbeaux |
