Well, la cross is actually a cross country race, and lacrosse is a game played with a small racket and a wooden ball a little bigger than a tennis ball. This game was first played by the French Jesuits in the 1600's. However, now la cross can also mean (in French,) "the cross" but in the feminine gender, le cross, would be masculine. LOL did that help? |

Thanks Sharon. The reason I asked is they were going to market a car named "la cross" in Quebec and they failed to realize that, apparently, in street lingo, it meant something quite unintended. Like the apocrophyal story that Chevy couldn't sell their Chevy Nova in Mexico because in Spanish "no va" means it doesn't go :---------) |

lacrosse is Quebecois slang for masturbation popular amongst teens, don't ask me why. i've never understood quebecois slang or swear words. the absolute worst things you can say in quebec are seemingly harmless, and oddly, religious terms. for example tabernac(tabernacle) is the equivalent of the F word or worse. i suppose it's the act of sacrilege that makes them so powerful. they do have french equivalents of our words, but for pure power, the holier, the dirtier. |
