It doesn't work (if you use JAWS, that is. I tried six times and it wouldn't , just wouldn't go through. Si I guess it's going to be modest dinner in my humble hovel and no 1k $ checks for the forseeable future. Wanna see Southern Cross Smash up an otherwise perfectly good computer? |

Most poetry contests out there, regrettably, are scams aimed at the sensitive creators of the written word. Almost all poets and writers desire, at their core, to be published, hence the scams. They promise and promise hoping to lure the unwary into the web of deceit, promising more riches if you agree to pay them, then pay more for plaques, then even more for award seminares, and then, even more. Once they have one check, they have all your info needed to gain further riches without your approval. That latter aspect is merely my View, since I hold them in the highest disdain, and really wouldn't put it past em. |

Alicat's sooooo right. I was skeptical, for instance, of poetry.com's contest from the beginning anyway, in that they placed a limit on the amount of lines your poem submissions could be, etc. If it were a haiku contest, I would absolutely understand. But poetry should be widely accepted upon its full nature, and to restrict it to a certain amount of lines shyed me away, for often I just have so much to say, my imagination is always running wild and you just can't wrap a barbed wire around a thought. In the true sense of the word, on multiple levels, there's nothing free about these sorts of contests. It isn't free in a commerical sense, it isn't free in an appreciative sense, and it also isn't free in an artistic sense. Hang in there, dearest friend. There are those out there who truly will respect your voice and give it a dignified place. Sincerely, Noah Eaton "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" |
