“WASHINGTON — A homicide bomber probably caused the blast that killed 22 people, including 14 American soldiers, at a American base in Mosul Tuesday, a preliminary investigative report has found.”

There was a video released by the group that set off a mine under
an Israeli checkpoint in Gaza, killing six soldiers, showing two
of their members choosing to stay in the tunnel with the mine
in order to personally detonate it.

This kind of “martyrdom operation”  has happened in several
countries in the Middle East and Asia, and of course there’s
9/11.  They apparently have a certain appeal in the Moslem
world.  For Christians martyrdom meant being killed for
your faith; I don’t recall it including killing anyone else in the process,
(those more knowledgeable can correct me).

Is this something to be understood,
or destroyed?

As an aside, what if these ”martyrdom operations” started
happening in the United States, as they do in Israel, (it’s
amazing they haven’t already and I suspect American
intelligence has much to do with it), martyrs blowing
themselves and Americans up in restaurants and shopping
malls.  How different would the United States, then perhaps
have to, become?

P.S.

“Viewers are told that "the path to becoming a priest in Islam is through jihad" and implored to focus on the rewards of martyrdom — in the afterlife and on judgment day.”

Gunmen Attack Bus in Honduras, Killing 23

“The Mara Salvatrucha gang and another, Mara 18, claim to have more than 100,000 members in Honduras. The gangs are known for extorting "protection" money from residents as well as committing robberies, homicides and other crimes.”

Doesn’t sound, in fact, all that different,
it being about power and control.

Power and control, that about sums it up, in my opinion, too.
