I think tobacco is the worst drug in the world, besides alcohol. cigarettes will flat kill you, and alcohol can torture a man slowly to death. what about maryjuana, though? i would classify it with tobacco, but is it as addictive? If maryjuana was legal, would it be as deadly as cigarettes? i can smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, but i don't think i could smoke 20 joints a day. i think cigarettes are even worse than maryjuana, what about you? |

And what about manipulated food and all the rubish and hormones they throw in. And what about all that nice pollution we're inhaling. I'd rather have my kids smoking a cigarette than smoking marihuana. It's legal overhere (Netherlands) in special coffee houses and I think it's as addictive as cigarettes, but one doesn't get high from a cigarette and there are few cigarette smokers who turn to heavier stuff as marihuana smokers more often do. Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

all mind altering substances must be carefully approached - tobacco is good as a healing product when applied externally, marajuana in certain medical instances can ease the pain of dying, alcohol, well, there really isn't a place for it except for as an anticeptic. I believe all should be avoided unless there is a viable medical reason for its use - get high on life - live with compassion and love and feel good from it - Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

i think common medicine, prescribed, or otc, is as bad as any chemicals one could consume. just legal, as are alcohol, and tobacco. |

I don't know if by comparing the deadliness of marjuana to that of cigarettes you are establishing an accurate comparison here. For example, what if, as a Christian, I decided that marjuana, being a part of God's creation, is perfectly fine for me to consume in moderation. Would you call me up on my sense of morality because by smoking too much of it I could impair my brain or possibly even die? Eating too much food may lead to obesity, heart problems, and death. Does that mean that food is therefore also an elicit substance? Any idiot can see that the result is true. |

i agree fractal, maryjuana is natural, just like tobacco, but why is tobacco legal, and not maryjuana? i don't think maryjuana is as bad as tobacco, and certainly not as bad as alcohol, which is legal too. |

Marijuana is a mind-altering substance, just like alcohol. It impairs judgement and motor functions (although the degree to which it does so compared to alcohol can be argued), so if it was made legal, its use and production would need to be controlled. The problem is that marijuana is literally a weed, so it can be grown just about anywhere by just about anyone, and requires little if any processing to achieve potency. By legalizing marijuana, you'd provide the public with a virtually limitless, basically free, legal source of mind-altering drugs. Certainly the fact that it is illegal currently does not eliminate its use, but if it was made legal its use, and abuse, would be much more widespread. |

quote:Baffled by this statement (as well as most of this thread to tell the truth). So Tylenol to ease a headache is as bad as alcohol or tobacco? How about Blood pressure medication? Heart medication? Somehow, the above statement smacks of a narrow-minded perspective; not thought out, just spit out. Tobacco, alcohol, apples... pretty much anything becomes bad for you when over-used. Where the focus on tobacco and alcohol and marijuana, et al, comes from is that they require less use to be overused. A couple drinks and you're drunk. A few puffs and you're stoned. A couple packs of cigarettes and your lungs stop working as well as they should. It takes quite a few apples to give you a stomach ache and increase your blood sugar to unhealthy levels, so that's not as recognized. But all that aside, I'd like to know why you've limited your mind to these few items? While you're at it, why don't you throw out some other dangerous, every-day items. One joint contains the equivalent amount of THC as an entire pack of cigarettes - yet a single car can produce enough carbon monoxide on a thirty-mile drive to kill half a dozen people. A pack of cigarettes a day will limit your lung capacity and increase your chances for cancer - yet (as mentioned above) rampant overeating has become such a medical concern that insurance companies have been forced to begin adding it as a "disease" in order to effect treatment for hundreds of thousands of people who are suffering from strokes, heart-attacks, and other impairments (think of the potential psychological ramifications of obesity in a society with a stick-thin mentality). Prescription and OTC drugs can be abused and occasionaly addictive (though not enough so in my opinion to rank them with cigarettes and alcohol) - yet non-prescriptive drugs have gained a large portion of control not only over our own local society, but also on many other nations. Whatever drug it may be (meth being the most dominant currently, i believe), it's far worse not only unregulated, but overabused than any prescription medication you're likely to find. I'd say more, but have a feeling that it will fall on either deaf or uncaring ears that are probably not linked to any reasonably recognizable cognitive abilities, so I'll just go back to work. |
