Choices Suddenly a realization, rose from within I've been playing life's game, entirely wrong. Sometimes you must trade, sin for sin To gain in the holding for something you long. I've settled behind a mirror with crack Believing too much in idealisms song. Coming around, full circle and back Returning to arms that once held me, strong. Inner reflection on years spent with you When smile on your face, begins its return. Discussing the past through your eyes, I view Memories once shared, a newness in yearn. Promises pledged, thought sacred but scarred Worded in poems, created in fear. Reading your eyes, the love that you guard Pretending it's gone whenever I'm near. "I've missed you", he said, "could we give it a try? This year has been harder than ever for me." I stared into blue, heard loud was my sigh. My body untensed, feeling finally free. Wondering if second chance to pursue. If bending my will to accept status quo Of affairs in the past, forgiven in lieu For a lifetime together, my heart to bestow. A cliche so truthful, I rarely have used "the grass is not greener", he's learned the hard way. So " Alice", I say into mirror, confused, "The choice is now yours if you want me to stay." For "Alice" is me when I've failed life at best. She holds me together, though cracked by the fall. Now,I may leave her behind like the rest If I choose in my waking to accept you, in all. |

The grass being greener is one of the oldest cliches, but the truth tied into those words is still timeless today. ~Alice~ is tougher than she looks, keep her close and draw on her wisdom, for only she knows what lies behind the glass. Enjoyed your poem dear! [This message has been edited by BluesSerenade (02-25-2002 02:15 PM).] |

On the rare occasions that I've been fortunate enough to read your poetry, it has occured to me that your name told a story. I believe you've given a glimpse of that here. There is much to take in in this poem, I may have to think about it awhile. I did enjoy the read. |
