The Fisherman’s Daughter… Sunwarmed pier boards tingling bared feet salt spray attaching to golden highlights aurora crowned daughter tagging dad’s footsteps teach me to fish She squints her eyes over the bluegreen sea making the shimmer more in her memory teach me to fish First lesson, the rod - useless without a reel ~ casting is taught and be careful of who is behind you for we shall snag nothing but trouble if we don’t watch our back… teach me to fish Now fish forward, only taking enough to feed yourself and a friend, giving back to the sea what someone else needs… teach me to fish ~*~ Lessons come with gifts ~ memories harbor laughter ~ sands of time shoal our souls ~ and this is written, for a fisherman’s daughter who remembers this is for you… ©Karilea Rilling Jungel 23 February 2002 |

Karilea: I love the lessons in this and the way you presented it. I think you must have been standing next to me on the pier. ![]() I remember the sun touched my hair and the boards were scarred and splintered and all around was lively air that took my perfect well placed cast, anyway, and angled it and twisted it just so around the wooden post where seabird sat in apparent nonchalance. This bait was better fish than any I could perceive in the undulating murky depth before me, I thought, and took to tossing it in the air for free falling seagull catch game which charmed me more and made the gnarled man next to me with full bucket, smile. And so I passed the day catching happiness |

What wonderful lessons we can all learn if we listen well. Sunshine, you really sketched an endearing portrait of a daughter and a Dad, in their best light. PB4S |
