This is the year for pain.
Everyone bleeds together-
bad memories are infectious
and when we kiss the paper
we write on and pass it around,
we exchange our own soured insides
for someone else’s.

Some of us write about
bad parents,
another person about
violations of the heart, or soul, or body-
while someone else
can't find enough of a voice
to say anything but "help me."

And yet-
a truthful poem
is so hard to come by.

We are all saying everything
without saying anything,
we come and we go, learning how
to interpret each other’s secrets.

For a change
I'd like to be obvious-
what if I write in red
when I'm angry,
blue when I'm sad,
pink when I'm sensual,
and black when
I scare myself.

We should all be so
color-coded
and exposed.

This is the year for honesty.
We are all hung up on the same issues,
on the same line,
strung out on a ledge
feeling isolated
and crowded at the same time.

It's funny how
no matter how much
we write about suffering,
we still don't know what to say.

"Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone
I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me."

Very nicely done Angela.
And very very true...
Or perhaps we write exactly what we mean..
without realizing it!
Hugs.
