Listening to every heart

April’s Augment

Youth is superior, especially
when held tightly in the mind of and
by the aged

so no matter how lines carve lips
either in smile,
or frown

or how hands gnarl into linear shapes
of algebraic equation, but keep tapping
expectation, their nailed
tips morse-coding impatience at the
unknown

when April draws near,
and fresh dirt defines fingertips,
as if proving by god I can still bend over
to pull the weeds,
turn the soil
and give life to this seed of mine…

when April happens,
as the wind plays peek-a-boo by
a view of winter’s jest still
in tease by sticks of icy fingers
being chased by sunbeams…

when April ensues,
and the poet breathes again,
pulling in great breathes of clean anticipation
that something white is calling
but can now be carried outside
and placed into his lap,
no electric tapping but the feel and pull of
scratched thoughts,

when the cat stretches out
and the dog warms
its back, its summer panting making the
day a bit warmer,

when April stretches…

we live again.

(smiles) Wow, this is wonderful, sweet friend, just the thought of the cat and dog going outside again and seeing the first robin of the season awlays makes me smile knowing April has come too! (sigh) This is lovely, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!
