The Supermarket

Supermarkets are all the same
miles of aisles and checkout lanes
your groceries ride on the conveyer
to the tune of the cash register's shrill prayer

some coffees' in cans and some fresh ground
theres lazy rotisserie chicken, well browned
on the aisle of health and beauty aids
are shampoo, soap and razor blades

the cereal aisle attracts the kids
the seafood man sells shrimp and squid
the butcher wraps the meat so well
in packages small enough to sell

in the freezer, are frozen meals
some low in fat, great diet deals
and some for days when we're so busy
that cooking sends us into a tizzy

the packaged meats are full of baloney
the pizzas are graced with pepperoni
sometimes our carts become unsteady
when loaded down with too much spaghetti

we buy our groceries, our dollars...we spend
but in the supermarket, we meet old friends
here amidst the maze of aisles
we're often greeted warmly with smiles

(smiles) Awwwwwwwww, that is what I love too about supermarkets above all else, it's not just a market but a social convention too almost, and just the sight of  asmile coming back at you brightens my experience there! (kiss on cheek) This is gorgeous, sweet friend, your words always make me smile, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Thanks for your reply, Noah...
I have always enjoyed grocery shopping...and its probably because of the social interactions.  I always meet all of my friends at the supermarket...

If I had my own supermarket
I know what I'd do
I'd fashion it to give myself
A hearty laugh or two.

I'd sit there in my office
Surveillance cameras everywhere
With rows of buttons in my hands
And "Shoppers - please beware!"

I'd have a mic in produce and
If someone squeezed a melon
The hidden mic would scream out "OUCH!"
And they would run out yellin'!

In Beauty Aids, amid the gunk
And all that wrinkle creme
When ugly gals would shop, I'd play
The Mission Impossible theme!!

I'd put all items marked half-price
Down on the bottom row
And, when the ladies bent to get them
I would watch the show!

If someone had eleven items
In the "10 or less" line
They could give their soul to God
But their butt would be mine!

I'd have a spotlight shine on them
Alarm bells ring like mad
And cashiers screaming "Shame on you!"
To make them feel bad.

I've many more ideas but
For now I better stop.
Next time you need some grosseries
Come by my place and shop!!

Thanks Maureen...
That happens to me also...if I talk to myself in the supermarket, which happens quite often......someone else will invariably come over and join the conversation....and then, well...I've made a new friend!   ~super hugs~

Rofl.....this is a much better poem than mine is, Micheal...
I especially love

I'd have a mic in produce and
If someone squeezed a melon
The hidden mic would scream out "OUCH!"
And they would run out yellin'!

But I also thought the part about the ugly girls was cute

Ouch!!!!!!!!to that one, I would be afraid to shop in your supermarket.  You are pure evil

I think you should post this as a poem...its so ****Good!

Lyra,
Love your poem but Mike is something else.

Barry,  thanks so much for your reply...
I am trying hard to keep my spirits up, but it looks like I have a long road ahead of me towards recovery...
But I am happy that at least there IS a road.
For a while, I wasn't even sure that there would be one
But of course...nothing is ever guaranteed.
We can only do our best.
Have a great Easter ~ hugs ~

I forgot the fake severed fingers
Mixed in with the meat
And a butcher with a bandaged hand..
Now wouldn't that be neat!?!?!

And Michael...some more for you, Mr. Manager

and in each and every corner
a D-con Mouseproof box
with pellets scattered about
by the mice who were outfoxed

and the birds of the produce section
across the ceiling, take wing
their droppings all over the fruit
and the veggies, as they sing
