I. There’s something special about a trip When you’re my destination - It’s been entirely too long I’m filled with anticipation! Thank heavens for cruise control Curbing my acceleration. A speeding ticket would not be fun And might mar my elation. I hunch forward more and more Until I finally have to peel My fingers from their bruising grip Upon the steering wheel. Another landmark reached at last The time’s near for my arrival. I’d make this trip anytime - Seeing you is my survival. II. “How does your mind work?” you asked me Your question again brings a smile... Don’t you know that it doesn’t And hasn’t for quite a long while? My brain cells took early retirement, Not one lick of work will they do - They’re much too busy enjoying Being filled with thoughts of you. III There was rain and darkness when I passed this way before But now the sky’s a brilliant blue and I can see much more Than lines centering pavement and taillights up ahead It’s springtime and the forests have put on a beauty spread. Redbuds bring thoughts of poetry, Lady Santos’ purple lace The dazzling white of dogwoods recall salvation’s face Naturalized wisteria, the graceful Bradford pear Yellow jasmine climbing, vining... here, there, everywhere. Still, I don’t see a single sight as mile follows after mile That can warm my heart as much as your beloved smile. Thanks, Toe... May your birthday be a wonderful one and every day bless you with happiness as abundant as that you bring to my life. *S* [This message has been edited by suthern (03-27-2002 11:25 AM).] |

JM: Time passes whether we're having fun or not, doesn't it? LOL Thank you... I'm glad you liked this... no napkin, map or receipt is safe from my scribbles when I'm on the road with time to think... the tough part is reading my scrawl later. *G* Marge: Shhhhhhh... I told him that was sweat from the beer bottles! LOL Thank you, ma'am... It's only right that such special people should share a day. *S* Sunshine: I tried to email you... but I think I used the wrong addy. *S* I'm greatly honored and I love you dearly... But you might want to reconsider your request... after all, I'd first have to visit you. *G* And then there's this... written for my boss's 40th birthday tomorrow. *G* (I already have her scared to open her office door... and this is only Wednesday. *EG*) Lordy, Lordy... Look Who's.... FORTY!!! Give up your claim to “younger than springtime” - You’re on the downhill slide. “Older than dirt” is now your description, So prepare for a bumpy ride!! You’re over the hill and picking up speed Say “Farewell!” to your youth. Senior moments will soon have you doubting Even the simplest truth. You may look the same as you did last week But mark my words, my dear... You’ll soon learn that you can’t walk, See, chew, or even hear! Gone are the days for vacations on skis - Pull up your rocking chair. You may enjoy following nature trails But you’ll need a cane to get there. Take your camera wherever you go, For your telephoto lens Will come in handy to read menus If your bifocals need cleansed. Now you may have fond memories Of fun times in some bar But you’ll be asleep earlier When your teeth soak in a jar. Brown spots, wrinkles, arthritis You’ve one foot in the grave Don’t think that style and dignity Are things that you can save! You’re now youthfully challenged And when this year is done We’ll be back, picking at you For turning forty-one! Now... you still want me to write for you??? LOL jellybeans: I know you love me And I know you love Toe And that's more than enough Fellow o & o. Big hugs, you lil rhymer, you. *S* And many, many thanks! *S* Sven: You posted while I was writing the great american novel.... it did take a while. *G* Thank you so much... I'm very glad you liked. *S* [This message has been edited by suthern (03-27-2002 03:41 PM).] |

A really cute birthday poem for the Toe, Suthern...are you going to give him a toe ring for a gift? My daughter in law's birthday is Sunday, also. The day after she was born, her aunt...who was still in high school, went to school and told everyone she was an aunt...and they all thought it was an April Fool's joke... How neat that he was born on the day before April Fool's! copyright2002 Lyra Nesius |

What a great poem. And I just love that second stanza. I’ve had the same thoughts. And happy birthday to Toe when he reads this. If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |

vandana: I’m glad you liked. *S* Thank you! M’toe Angel: I wish his smile would light these pages more often. *G* Thank you so much for enjoying. *G* Madame Chipmunk: No, ma’am... I’ve never even seen his toes... so I gave him a cold Foster’s. LOL. Please wish your daughter-in-law a happy birthday from me... and thank you very much! *S* PS: I’m also glad you stopped here, dear lady... and so glad you found a smile! *S* Thank you very much. *S* Tracey: Well, Bal claims I’ve had a lobotomy... he obviously just doesn’t recognize the sensory satisfaction that results from contemplation of perfection. *G* Thank you so much for reading... and for understanding. *S* |
