The Poetry Police

Invisible uniforms wield their power
through fingered keyboards and screens
didactic despots of meter and rhyme
hide their faces, ashamed to be seen

digital monarchs of metaphor
crowned heads of poetrythink
hurl poisoned darts of admonishments
at quills of emotional ink

intellect rules in this lofty domain
those who dare to write with their passion
are stripped of their words and their voices
and banned in undignified fashion

exiled forever, beyond the great wall
along with their martyred writs
bards of emotion who took the fall
now look for some friendlier crits

poets disliked by the fuhror
are rapidly put in their place
no comments appear neath their work
their creations, forever displaced

and remarks which dare challenge authority
will be hastily put to death
slashed from the page with the vengeance of rage
swiftly deprived of their breath

as cliques of elite on the throne
slash poems with daggars of hate
and writers insulted for reasons unknown
flee this poetry police state

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Lyra, this is sooooo very sad, it always saddens me to see people always critiquing each others own feelings and thoughts severely, it has happened to me before and at one point I almost stopped writing because of that! (sad sigh) My heart goes out to everyone hurt by those kind of replies, sweet friend, I wish all other boards could be like this one where poetry is always respected and treated with compassion, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

You are so clever~
I don't do confrontation very well, as it has backfired on me more times than not.
I've learned to play it safe and stay out of their way!!
I remember reading this before and it is even better the second time around.

Hugs to you Lyra~

Michael....thanks for your reply....
I posted this poem on everypoet after they had banned a couple of friends of mine and I knew that I wasn't going back there again...
this was kind of like, my last insulting remark to them.
Well...I posted it at 9:30 PM, and by 9:37, it had disappeared.
But all night long, I kept getting emails saying that someone from everypoet had replied to it...when I followed the reply back to it's source, it led me to their administrative forum...which of course, was locked....
But I did get the satisfaction of knowing that they had removed it to their administrative forum and all of them were reading it all night long.
Interestingly, they never did ban me...Some of my other poems are still posted in their archives.

Lori...thanks for your reply.  Unlike you, I can get very confrontational when someone insults me or insults my friends....and that site was downright insulting!
Thanks for your hugs.....and   more huggggssss to you!

Lyra my dearest friend I’ll call tomorrow, I have always loved this poem I think it says it all absolutely brilliantly. Wonderful writing as always, and as ‘Deer says you are home now. And you scatter your acorns anywhere you like darling heart I love to see them.

NOW this is what I call flaming, utterly utterly wonderful

Love you take care

That doesn't sound like a very nice place to be. I'm glad the first poetry group I ever found was here.

Lyra,
I'm going out on a limb for an acorn...I'm betting this was reposted for me. And you seem to have ruined my theory that we are our own worst critic. Yes I do remember this original post and abviously didn't consider it when writing my poem. But as the 'deer hinted...I'm thrilled this is your home! Oh, and BTW thanks for thinking of me with this repost.

Madame Chipmunk,

been to that site before..posted a couple in fact...i can empathise with your experience...

on hindsight, i got a waking call--my musings aren't that great after all (which makes me determined to improve myself)...though they could have done it in a nicer way, i suppose

Lyra I remember this and I am so happy you posted it again. I had been there before coming here and I would have given up writing had I stayed there just one more day. I swear I thought so little of myself after hearing their remarks.I love this poem so very  much and it is so well written. and oh my that picture is awesome...Hahah floria

Thank you, Lyra! Yep! I've been there; been tarred, scarred; ostracized; ridiculed and just plain told not to come back. Of course I was never controversial, Hehehehehee...

Great piece MC.  Liked it very much.  A terrific reminder of the gift we have in first ammendment rights...to speak freely.  It is indeed a gift we can cherish.

Thanks Larry...for your reply...
When I saw your poem, it reminded me of how nervous I used to get when I posted anything on that site.
I still get a bit anxious, even on this one but I wouldn't call it nervous or frightened.
That site was downright SCARY!
I just wanted to let you know that things could be worse......much worse!
I didn't mean to shatter your theory, because it happens to be correct.
And I certainly do feel much more at home here at Piptalk....and I feel like all of you are my family.~hugs~

faterider...yes the same thing happened to me on that site.
I did realize that my poetry could be improved but oh what a rude way to find out.
I actually wrote a reply to someone's poem when one of the "czars of merriment" tore it to shreds... I asked him why he had to be so mean about it.
BTW, that reply also disappeared very quickly!
thanks for your reply

Thanks so much, Floria...You were probably there at the same time that I was, but I don't remember seeing your name.
I definitely agree with you...that site is the biggest ego buster around.
Its one thing to crit someone's poem but its quite another to be so mean spirited about it.     ~hugs~

Newell.....what in the world did you do to get banned from that site?
You are such a mild mannered gentleman, and your poems are so non-offensive that I can't imagine why you would get banned.
I know that they jump on everyone and tell them that their poetry is really bad...even when its great...but I just cannot imagine them telling you never to come back!
They didn't even do that to me after I posted "The Poetry Police" which was so clearly about them, that it only took them 7 minutes to remove it.  Many of my old posts are still there.
David says they are scared of me...ha ha!

Thanks so much, amusemi...and you are absolutely right...The first amendment is indeed, a wonderful gift.  Its too bad that certain people don't realize that we actually have freedom of speech....
Again, thanks for the reply
