From the Kitchen Window

The climbing wild rose
Has covered the holly tree
With its white tuffs sure of direction
Up into a piece of sky

The holly green prickled tall
Holds court with steady day
Leaning with dignity against the fence
Letting the wild-fingered rose take hold

They give each other grace
One spreading in the sun of spring
The other waiting  for December
When in dotted red berries beloved is

This odd coupling goes unnoticed
By the shouting rambunctious children of the alley
Unless they make the mistake of loosing balance
And reach to hold the thorns of both

I like anything that holds court so well...

Lovely the way you can transport me to another climate, another world. I enjoyed this!

I loved this Martie.  My wysteria is all into my spruce, and I was going to cut it back and thought - just like this world - there was room for them all there!  I like it when they "twingle" together, and one day I shall peek out that window with you

I love this, Martie... The picture your words painted had me smiling... those smiles dissolved into giggles at the thought that the kids probably don't appreciate the coupling at all... For us, it's a double beauty... for them it's a double whammy. *G*
