No she said, turned
and shut the door.
Expecting him to knock
again, she held on to the frame
anticipating the quaking
but it never came.

She stood still, leaning
against the door comforted
by the power of her negative,
until, sounds of busy pulled
at her ears, what were those
noises? Curiosity almost opened
the door, but habit stopped
the knob from turning.

What was that pounding and
could that be the crackling of a fire?
She felt a chill, no longer
finding comfort in her fortress
as piece by piece he un-boarded
her restrictions to feed his fire.

She knew he was out there
she could feel the fire burning
its warmth penetrated her shielded
existence, still she held onto her door.

Her eyes nervously shifting
she put her ear to the door
was that the sound...of pages turning?
He was reading...sitting by the fire
and READING? Her aggravation now building,
why doesn't he just leave? How can he read
when I am dying in here?
Doesn't he understand I can no more go out than
I could let him within.
Inside is not a nice place to be.

Her nostrils flared, what was that smell?
Was he now cooking?
Oh how dare he eat and leave her hungry.
Oh Temptation go away
she hissed into her silence, I will not
give in to you.

She started to shiver and looked
side to side, she suddenly wanted to jump
right out of her skin.
She cursed her fright, it makes no sense
I have been inside here
for as long as I can remember.

Discomfort crept in, seeping
stealthily under her door until
she could no longer stand still,
she could no longer abide in her hiding.
She looked round the frame.
He smiled, held out a bowl
and patted the seat beside him.

Oh jellybeans, I enjoyed this so much today!
Indeed, love is patient, love is kind....
and, this left me with a smile eating popcorn by the warm fire.
Thank you for this gem!

Whatever style you use, the result is always excellence. *S* I very much enjoyed this, jellybeans... I have a feeling she'll never taste the meal... but her heart needed filling more than her tummy. *G*

jellybeans,
I enjoyed both poems. The one I read and the one between the lines.

thank you seymore, suthern always accuses me of that, of using a metaphor so well, that it acutally makes it into 2 poems, the one on the surface and what it really means...so your comment seconds her motion and makes me smile, thank you

And this is why I don't understand women.  lol
