BEAUTY OUTSIDE THE WINDOW

When I look out the window I finally see
The pretty color of my autumn tree.
I patiently waited and each day I would spy
To see if Mother Nature had kindly dropped by
And gave the maple tree a chance to shine
And bestow its new beauty to these eyes of mine.
Just the year before in the season of birth,
A seedling was carried in the wind to the earth.

And soon with the rain and warmth of the sun,
The miracle of nature had just begun.
The seedling turned into a tiny little tree,
But it had to be moved so it could grow free,
Away from the shed to a much better place,
And it could spread its roots with plenty of space.
This year I've watched as it's grown so tall –
A few inches above my head, it is this fall.

As I look out the window, yellow leaves I see –
A sight that reflects true beauty to me.
I know that soon winter will take its course.
The tree will be lifeless but I'll have no remorse,
For I know that with the breath of spring,
Revival to the tree, the season will bring.
Buds will bloom and there will be leaves again,
Appearing where the old ones once had been.

Through the years it will change and it will grow,
And it will probably continue long after I go.
Someday from the tree, little birds will sing,
And they'll build their nests there in the spring.
Some squirrels will climb up and down the bark
And katydids will sing from the tree in the dark.
As I look out the window I'm so happy to see,
A true treasure in my heart – my maple tree.

Transplanting trees can be tricky. Is your maple looking forward to Spring? for your "happy little tree" as artist and teacher Bob Rossi would have said.
