Don’t Tell Anyone

You have never known me,
she said,
as she put her hands into
her tousled mess of hair,
like the curled and misplaced jungle
where she lived, had lived
with this stranger who saw straight lines
when what she saw was curve.

So, how had they lived
through two children and his drugs
and her CREATIVE EXPRESSION, for years,
when to not make war was like making love
without touching, but with the same afterglow.

We never fight in front of the children, she said,

and then confidentially she told someone
they hadn’t made love in six years,
but he said he gave her foot massages
and touched her delicate there,
between the toes where he could not help
but yearn for the shoe salesman he used to be
in his father’s shoe store
looking at the legs and up the dresses
of so many friendly feet,
before, when he was young.

And she wishes to express herself,
she is an artist, a creator,
cannot live this work ethic,
must be free and cannot with children
still too sensitive to understand.

And the children listen behind the sigh
and the rolled eyes of not listening,
see her skin recoil from his touch,
his steady upturned pain,
and they wonder why they cannot say
that it would be better not to wait,
because right now, really stinks!

Oh Martie the pain in the actually screams out.  I think this speaks for so many that stay in relationships for whatever reason, be it the children, or fear of leaving, and look for the goodness in all that is lost.  So very sad Martie, but a true poem of life.  Well done.

So, so true, Marti...and so well written.  And in this sex crazed world (country) of ours, I thnk many lose the true meaning/value of love.  Their is love after sex, especially if there was love before...and things happen that cause it to go by the wayside.  Hystericktomies (I know it's misspelled but I don't care) for instance.  People don't realize how that affects the physical drive of some women...it goes away, even with medication.  And there are a number of other reasons...but won't carry on.

I love your writing Marti...it's such an eye-opener, especially if one will but look.

(big huggggsssss) Oh Martie, this is so very sad, I do also think we live in a lecherous world overwhelmed with sexuality and I believe that one should first get to know a person and fall in love with them then when there is a deep attraction in time it is okay to make love but it hurts me to see the ideas harming children ever so much! (sad sigh) This is so sad but powerful, sweet friend, my heart goes out to all these victims, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

This tale has a sad familiar ring to it. Sorry to say, I've known a few families whose lives were like this. I've always wondered what kind of 'love' relationships the children will have. Well written, Martie.

Martie, this is remarkable and certainly some of your better writing.  I would like to see more like this.  Great work, my friend. (((hugs)))

How many don't tell anyone's have we ever heard from a stranger or a friend, willing to talk of what could be better but instead hear the steady upturned pain....

you write life so very well...

Hello my friend,
The silence is deafening... and speaks volumes in a relationship. Much courage to stay and try, much courage to leave and live.
Beautiful and well done. ThisDiamond

This was so realistic, so many true images of a relationship held together for all the right reasons, yet living it feeling so wrong. Thought provoking to say the least... Very well done!

The mundane days of our lives are all wrapped up tightly into this piece, Martie... We all have them... We just don't express them as only you can do...

It is sad when compassion is gone from one
toward the other....and the harm that it
brings to all.  I have been down this road,
had to almost lose it all to see the reality,
to figure out what my problems were...and
to try to make it work...

The situation you write of can be very
difficult...for everyone...

You have penned it well,  in your usual
impeccable style...
